Hi, I'm using one now after giving birth to my baby girl (1st) almost 5 months ago, Even tough I have medical insurace it won't cover it (at least mine didn't) It costed me $400....my ob says it works great, has to be replaced every 5 years and it's highly effective "almost like if you had surgery" so she said. But I don't live in the States, so I don't know how much it is there. here is the us website www.mirena-us.com

It's very effective and today's IUDs are quite safe, but many of them deliver small amounts of hormones in a way similar to the pill, so if the pill makes you sick, you need to look into the IUDs that do not have hormone complements. Also, injections and patches are really just another way of taking the pill. They work under the same principle. If you are under a budget and don't want a hormone-based birth control method, I would look into getting a diaphragm fitted by your doctor. It's the cheapest method of birth control in the long run.

An IUD is very effective as a form of birth control, however it does not prevent STDs. Doctors usually don't recommend them to women that haven't had children yet. It costs around $250. for the IUD itself and then there is the fee for the doctor to insert it, which varies. Here is a link to site with lots more info on it.

IUDs basically are a foreign substance inserted into your womb so that an embryo cannot implant. They do not necessarily prevent conception, just implantation. Also, they can cause permanent scarring and infertility, plus infections.
Hormonal birth control makes a lot of women sick, and injections are just more of the same.
Your best bet is to learn how your body works. There are different ways a woman can track her own body's signs of ovulation. Then it's a simple matter of planning sexual activity to either acheive or avoid pregnancy. Best of all, it's FREE to track ovulatory patterns and it doesn't matter whether you have insurance or not. The only cost is learning how to do it. Google "Creighton Method" or "Billings Method" or "Couple to Couple League."

some IUD'S can cause you to be unable to have children because they are Put In the Body Causing scare Tissue. If the Pill and Shot Aren't your thing than try the Patch It worked for me, And It was so easy, no weight gain or hair loss like the Shot and It isn't Put inside you. A month supply of patches should Run you No more Than $32.00 a month

Its expensive...But its very effective...The IUD Its self cost between $200.00 and $500.00 usually...And you would have to pay for the drs. appt which can be expensive. I would go to your local clinic...I Heard that you can possibly get one from their now...You Might just have to pay a fee or for the cost of the IUD. Its deff worth it...They last 5-10 years!
