ANNIE OAKLEY COULD HAVE PREVENTED WORLD WAR ONE (SEE INTERESTING FACTS BELOW):
Yes, she was a very fascinating and interesting lady and one of the best marksman in history. She and her hubby enjoyed a relationship and romance which resembled a wonderful novel, but it was fact. Her legend is bright and unsullied.
Interesting facts about Annie Oakley:
In Europe she performed before Queen Victoria and other crowned heads of state. Oakley had such good aim that, at his request, she knocked the ashes off a cigarette held by the Prince of Prussia, the future Kaiser Wilhelm II. "Some uncharitable people later ventured that if Annie would have shot Wilhelm and not his cigarette, she could have prevented World War I."
When the United States was pulled into World War I, Annie Oakley offered to raise a regiment of woman volunteers to fight in the war. She had made the same offer during the Spanish-American War. At neither time was that offer accepted. She also offered to teach marksmanship to the troops. She did travel across the country for the National War Council of the Young Men's Christian Association and War Camp Community Service. At stops at training camps, she gave shooting demonstrations. She also raised money for the Red Cross. The Butlers' dog, Dave, became the "Red Cross Dog" by sniffing out donations of cash hidden in handkerchiefs.

I'm not related to her. But when I was VERY young, my brothers' boy scout troop had a "sisters" day, where we learned how to fire BB gun rifles. The scoutmasters called me "Annie Oakly" and I've been interested in her ever since.

Well, because of Adam and Eve, I am related to her, and everyone else in the world.
I remember that when I was little we had a book about Annie Oakley, and I enjoyed reading it. It's funny, I was actually thinking about her just a couple days ago.:-)

Nothing! She didn't do anything to help the world. During her life, she was well known in this country. Being a good shot, with a gun, doesn't mean you are important world-wide. She was entertaining, though!
