I saw FF 2 Rise of the SIlver Surfer last night and i havent read the comics in years.
Can someone tell me what is Galactus? Why is he destroying planets. It doesnt go much into it untill the end where you see the cloud up close.

galactus is a being that eats planets because their resources fuel him to keep him going

Galactus consumes the life-force of planets to feed himself. He uses Heralds to find planets with life on them. The Silver Surfer was one of his Heralds, until he broke away from Galactus.

A planet once abused him as a child, so now he goes around destroying all planets before they can abuse another innocent.
