if you need to lie in the first place, says something about the relationship you are in?. I found out some one was lying to me and had been for the last year, yes happens to Guys too. Not very nice to say the least.. What if it were a role reversal how would you feel if you caught some one being 'economical with the truth'.. truth will out eventually. have a good rest of today anyway

Nothing. Sometimes the best thing to do is to do nothing and say nothing. In the first place, if you mean by being economical with the truth means that you are not telling the whole truth, that means there is something that you would rather not divulge, so don't say anything and don't explain anything. Maybe you can talk about your feelings instead, it is a better subject than the issue or the truth whatever that may be.

BE 'ECONOMICAL' AS TO WHAT TRUTHS YOU ARE 'ECONOMICAL WITH'! It is safe to assume that you are telling a 'partial' truth to someone for a good reason! Like telling someone their breath don't smell, because you do not want to hurt them. That is a generous offering? Or is it.
If you are caught 'not telling the whole truth', in this case, that person can be treated most cruelly by others, when you could have been diplomatic and said, "Gee, do you want some gum?" every time you saw them for a while. ANYTHING BUT LET THEM GO BLINDLY! Once caught, you need to confess a GENEROUS truth as to why you did that! SIMPLY CONFESS!
We don't even need to discus what 'other' hurts could be absorbed by being 'economical with the truth' to a spouse or significant other.
BOTTOM LINE, IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO 'WHISPER' THE TRUTH, THAN TO 'SHOUT' A LIE!

Depends who I've lied to! If was my husband, I'd explain why I felt I had keep the truth from him, if was someone who wasn't a family member, I would just deny it and get on with my life! I also wouldn't apologise for the fact that I felt they shouldn't have been asking the question in the first place!!! I do actually tell very few lies as I have the opposite problem of being too damned truthful much to other people's displeasure!!!

If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.
There is always a point at which you can back out of a lie before it goes too far and you can claim it was a serious error of judgement on your part.
But there's also a line that gets crossed when you have to face up to the consequences of your lie.
It depends on the 'economical' nature... if someone gets hurt emotionally, you have a chance but if you lie to cover a serious injury or a death, you have to take your punishment.
It is ALWAYS better to tell the truth - you need a good memory to be a liar.

I just tell the truth to start with, my memory cannot cope with telling lies, and I know if I did I would get caught out so quickly, so I don't bother with it, and I found people are far more respectful of you if you tell the truth, even if you made a mistake, if you own up to it then people will still think "At least she told the truth about it"

Yas,
C'mon Babe..."economical?" A year ago I met the woman of my dreams. I told her in passing that I had a trust fund that I did not have. It was a lie. The relationship grew, we fell in love, and she kept asking about that trust fund. So I had to lie again and say "it is tied up in legal troubles" and finaly I told her that it had "been taken away."
I asked her to marry me and she said yes. After some time, and lots of guilt I told her that there never was a trust fund and she gave me the ring back. She did not ask me to move out, and we continued to be lovers. I found out that she was talking to old boyfriends, trying to hook up with them and I became livid. I moved out. That was a month ago. Now she is involved with one of her old boyfriends. After a year of being engaged, it was not even four weeks and she is involved with someone else....
What I have learned is to tell the f***ing truth because nothing good can come of a lie.
A rose by any other name is still a rose, and a lie decimates everything.

depends on the topic I would say - perhaps you feel that being economical at this stage with the truth is for the best - hard to give more details because of the brief question.

Feel silly for not being truthful, then apologise and tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
