Last night when I was driving home from my moms, I got some really sharp lower abdominal pains. Felt sort of like someone was poking at my cervix with a sharp object.
I stopped and went to the bathroom at a rest stop, then continued on my way home, the pain got a little worse, but nothing toooo bad. When I got home an hour later, I noticed that there was a wet spot on my panties and pants about the size of an orange. I know it wasn't urine, and it had (sorry to be gross) no smell or colour.
Could I be leaking amniotic fluid? And the sharp pains, could they be my cervix effacing? I have a 5 yr old son but don't remember pain like this @ 37 weeks!

Any info would be great, thanks

You can be just leaking but amniotic fluid Ive heard smells sweet. Id go to L&D there is a test they can do to be sure. Just leakign at this point wont do any harm though as amniotic fluid is constantly replaced. So as long as you and baby are neither in distress, theres no need to rush into anything. Labor shoudl be very soon on its own anyhow now. Congrats!

It could be, if you think your water has broke (it doesn't always gush) go to the ER, they can test you there. And if its leaking they won't use a pad, they'll just wipe your vagina with a little paper strip. They prefer for women to give birth within 24 hours of their water breaking, so if your water broke and your labor is progressing they most likely won't induce. If they find that you aren't progressing they may suggest induction medication to help it along. Mine never broke until 12 hours of induction. And I didn't even know it. Just got up to go pee and there was some mucusy blood on the tp. Told the nurse, who had just checked like 15 minutes before, she checked again and the fluid was gone. And boy did the contractions kick in then. It doesn't always gush, sometimes it just trickles.

Amniotic fluid actually does have a smell to it, it is a sweet smell. But if you think it was amniotic fluid, you should call your doctor, they will want you to come into L&D to be checked. And at 37 wks, with baby number 2, it doesnt mean that your not in labor, just because you don't feel the contractions doesn't mean that your not having them.

you could be, it could also be discharge. I know the further along you are the more you get, I had to wear a pad all the time. I would seriously recommend calling your Dr to see what they want you to do. At least you are basically considered full term once you hit 37 weeks. So good luck

if you think you are leaking you need to go to the hospital they can test it to see if it is amniotic fluid. if you are you need to have baby very soon so there is no infection- and baby is not in there without enough water. by the way i thought my water was leaking with my first child and i called the dr she said cough and see if anything comes out evidently the force from a cough will make you leak.

Is it still happening? If it happens when you are sitting but not when you are up and about, you did pop the bag! I had my water break and it was a flood when I sat down. If it is clear, go see the dr.

If the leak is constant, then your water might have broke. No one here can tell you what's happening, you would have to talk to your doctor.

Call your doctor immediately. IF you are leaking fluid, you may need to be induced quickly.
