While doing our geneaology, my father discovered the Oliver Cromwell, a man who stole the Enghish Crown was an ancester of ours! When his son Richard moved to America, he dropped the "m" and thus our name was created! Richard did not want to be associated with his father, and wanted to hide form his enemies!

I have an ancestor who was Latvian but lived in Russia and was known as a great biologist, one great-grandfather who was a well-known sculptor, an uncle who was famous for illustrating the Bible, and I have cousins that are famous in Europe that are painters and sculptors. Another uncle lives in Portland and is renowned for civic murals and his scenes of shipwrecks and other disasters. They are all in encyclopedias (not just Wikipedia) or biographical dictionaries.

I am distantly related to the famous Mob Boss Vito Genovese and probably anyone else Italian with that last name. It was my great grandmother's maiden name.
