I think their style is Portland Trailblazers with Bill Walton healthy. If Bill weren't as injured as he was, he'd definitely get more rings and would probably be a dynasty. Tim Duncan is like Bill Walton more than he is like anyone else. And Bill is like the top 3 centers of all time (remember, Bill completely destroyed all opposition that year which includes a prime Kareem, strong Bill Russell, good Moses Malone, etc. And since Tim is just a power forward, Tim got to be like the greatest PF of all time. The Spurs' defense runs off Tim like the Trailblazers' run off Bill.

you are a good sport for a Suns fan. most of them are very bitter! LOL
you know i recently said that the Spurs remind me of the 80's Boston Celtics. not exciting the least bit...BUT, i do think they are able to change the style they play. they showed that against the Suns and the Nuggets. they can get out and run and score plenty of points when they need to. the difference is the coach won't allow them to continue playing someone else's style. sooner or later, he'll have them slow it down and make opponents play on their terms....and under San Antonio conditions. you know?
they adapt, and then take over. with guys like Parker and Ginobli, they are capable of being very exciting, because those guys have a sudden burst that not many players have...and that's why the Cavs couldn't even catch Manu to foul him at the end of the game last night.
Now, the rest of the league will have to hit the drawing board to find ways to counter the Spurs' winning formula.

No. They benefited from playing an good schedule early. I'm not taking away from what they did, but they will be playing a ton of road games the rest of the way. Their opponents so far have combined for one of the lowest winning percentages out of all the team's opponents so far. Another thing is that the entire big 3 have been healthy all year and we can't assume that will stay the same the rest of the season. Manu plays reckless and Parker usually misses his fair share. So health and a favorable schedule has helped them so far. 60 wins is possible but not 70.

I agree. Remember that Coach Pop is old school. He demands perfection and gets angry when he doesn't get it. He wants precise execution from his players. He is not much for sudden improvisions on the court, even when they work. Example, he is not honing Parker to be a three pointer... that's Ginobili's job... and no doubt there is contention when Parker chooses to go for the three rather than blur through the defense and drop in his famous teardrop. Coach Pop is very much the methods coach. Nothing will change about that. Robert Horry says of him, " Under another coach, I may have had three options in a squeeze... but not with Coach Pop. I know exactly what he expects me to do in any situation out there, and I try to do it."
While some may not like his style of coaching, he has built the best defensive team in 2007.

i totally agree with "dez", the Spurs have got to be the most boring team to watch in the NBA, even though Tony Parker was the MVP of the Finals, everybody knows that Tim Duncan is the star of the team, and all he does is those boring post moves, although the stats of the Spurs is amazing! and they probably are the most dominant team in the NBA right now.

Exactly right. They don't care how pretty it looks just as long as they win. The Raiders should sell the rights to the slogan " JUST WIN BABY" to the Spurs because they have been winning more consistently than any other team in professional sports the last 10 years.

Yes, they are similar. That's one reason I so enjoy watching them. Call me an old-fashioned purist but I like old school basketball with sound fundamentals such as solid defense. For me, hype is like a too-sweet dessert: small bites are fine but I don't want to make a whole meal of it

I would definately agree. Not the most exciting basketball to watch, but certainly the most efficient. Way to GO Spurs!
