Seeing as how I wasn't born for another couple hundred years, I am surprised that my anus was discovered that early.

Originally, it was called Georgium Sidus (after King George), although some called it Herschel, after the person that discovered it.

It became Uranus the same year Ceres and Juno were kicked out as planets. By that time, astronomers began to realize how many asteroids there actually were and didn't want thousands of planets in the solar system. At the same time they were establishing more restrictive requirements to be classified as a planet, they decided that all planets should be named after characters from classical mythology.

(Pluto wasn't the first 'planet' to get kicked out).

By the way, when is Uranus's radial velocity at its maximum?

When Uranus is located at the semi-latus rectum of its orbit.

Now, that just kills me with laughing. lol

Um...

So then, your question is, did I know that Uranus was discovered around 1780?

Why, yes! Yes, I did! In fact, I know exactly when it was discovered: March 13, 1781, by astronomer William Herschel.

Woo-hoo! Best answer! Ten points for me!!!

(*sigh*...)

Yes, I did know that.
Did you know that Galileo apparently saw Neptune in 1612, but it wasn't until 1846 that its discovery was confirmed and announced by Le Verrier. And its discovery and announcement created a huge debate for years on whether Le Verrier or Adams deserved the credit.
