Most banks cash non member checks for a very small fee, from $2.00 for a credit union to high, close to $5.00 depending on the bank. The remainder of the money is all yours.

If you have an account at the bank, they usually don't charge for cashing a check, if not they charge anywhere between 3.00 and 7.00 dollars depending on the bank.

The bank only charges if you have a cashier's check made out, not if you're cashing one. Unless you don't have an account with them, then they may charge you a nominal fee.
