It doesn't, it plays into your instinctive thinking skills, that how they grab and keep your attention, and even persuade you.

You have put your finger right on the problem. Intelligent people no longer trust any media, so propaganda can only get into your head if you are not paying attention properly. Everybody is selling something, but only the stupid and gullible are buying it any more - there are plenty of them though.
Personally, it has forced me to winnow through the chaff in the hope of hitting a nugget of truth, which I then keep for future cross-checking, so propaganda is wasting my mental energy avoiding being credulous.
I do think for myself as much as possible, but the rewards for doing so are not great!
Cheers, Steve.

Powerful channels of information of the affairs of the world are captivating for the mind. And this is the point to consider above all pros and cons of their influence upon our lives.

It is good to know what is happening in the world; it is useful to listen to debates and discussions upon current issues and the persistent issues concerning our life in general; it is good to be in the know, to be full aware, interested in a wider world beyond the confines of our immediate environment, but is also compulsive, and habitual.

It is bad to know the first thing in the morning what has happened thousands of miles away; how many people, for instance, have died in Iraq this morning; where flood has struck; it is unnecessary for me to know many things, but to turn a blind eye to many thing in this world sounds unethical and ignorant.

The influence on my life is that I need to be careful what sort of opinions I am subliminally forming about things. If something has come to my notice then I have to have an opinion about it. And if I don’t then using serious maters of the world for the purpose of entertainment would be is a dangerous occupation; I might start getting stressed.

The over all influence then is that of shattering of a dream. Before the invention of media circus people used to imagine things, used to fantasise about distance parts of the world. The world then was a big place but now it has shrivelled into a size of a football pitch where we see bloody battles and celebration all at once.

My problem is that I have no choice but to be influence by all this. This is the age of information pollution. There might be little room for unique thinking styles in the future, as we all are trying to think alike influenced by the same incidents reported by the same sources of information.

Yes and No.
For many its hard not to be influenced by David Beckham's new haircut or an ignorant journalist.
Depends how much charactor you have and your beliefs/morals - I guess.
I know I certainly think for myself - just because one of my friends has something or does something, I won't just do the same for the sake of it. The same for magazines or television. A lot of my friends do that - they all buy the same clothes or bag - or even buy the same chewing gum! Just so like they can be the same!
Actually it makes me want to do the opposite! I like the idea of being unique and not following the crowd, I certainly don't want to be a chav!

Propaganda, Social engineering , brain washing etc.. It all works because these things have been studied for so long that experts know what buzz words will get people to react the way they want them to.

These days, it works based on the dumbing down of our society and breaking people's minds down to the point where they fall for anything. Cures for diseases that don't exist. 1100 calorie cups of coffee. Everyone is taking a pill . Our minds are melting into mush...

Truely it is a painful issue. Can you imagine a world where all modes of media were only used for education? The advertisements aim at a "simple mind" and when normal people are constantly bombarted by this "you are simple" brain washing, they begin to believe it, and act it. So what we eat is who we become.

Stereotypes, negative thinking, chained minds everywhere... only negative effect can be listed... except few movies and programmes giving you inspiration, new and effective ways of living and thinking, knowledge and understanding. Both sides of the coin have to be seen.

You have accepted that what is fed to you by the mass media is propaganda, it no longer controls what you believe.

So some of us do think for ourselves, many of us don't.
