Hi, I'm sorry to hear about the way you feel. I completely understand you I have recently went through a very rough patch with my on again off again bf of 10 years. He cheated on me, lied to me, betrayed me in ways I could never even image possible. I have been very depressed for about 6 months, I feel like I have a hole in me. I went to a therapist but that didn't work for me, I was thinking about trying a new one. If you ever want to talk you can always email me, because I understand how you are feeling. To actually answer you question, I do think that depression can last a long time and that it is up to the individual to get up and starting moving on with their life again. It's so hard though sometimes to pull yourself out bed. I hope you feel better soon. Try not to give up on yourself.

If it's a true disorder it can last a lifetime. My fiance and her niece have to take medication their entire lives for it. You can lead a normal life, still, if this is the case. Hopefully yours isn't that bad and you merely need some positivity or a driving reason to get better. Try charity work. It helps a lot of people, both the people receiving and donating time.
Good luck and feel free to contact me if you need positivity. I worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters and helped bring a teenage boy out of serious depression. I'm not trying to take the credit but I think I was a help.

Depression can last a lifetime without any treatment. Even with treatment it usually looms under the surface of someone who is clinically depressed and has a chemical imbalance. It won't go away by itself. Don't be afraid or embarrassed to get some help. I did and it really makes a huge difference.

Some people need to take medication for depression for the rest of their lives. If you're not taking any maybe you should, it could help you a lot.

Yes. But with treatment and time, you don't have to live with depression.

...it will only end when YOU decide YOU want it to end partner....otherwise unnecessary mental crap will surely continue. You are the captain of your own ship so to speak. You are the "boss"!!! You are in charge of it within your own mental self my friend. Get charge of your own mental good feelings with stuff seriously...and let everyone else concern themselves with their own mental duties of creating good thinking my friend. Your job is to keep your own mind well tuned and well heeled. See a therapist to help you achieve this wonderful mental state of mind my friend. Stay off of the idea that there's a better life through pharmaceutical chemistry otherwise. Are we cool dude?
