I'm Christian and it doesn't offend me. My nine year old son loves Harry Potter books and movies. I think some Christians just don't like the witch craft. They think it's demonic. But they are forgetting that this is fiction and that Harry is one of the good guys. I wish they would just relax and enjoy it for the entertainment that it is.

As a "good Christian" and a Harry Potter fan, I can tell you that Harry Potter is not offensive.

I believe that the Harry Potter hatred is spawned from the use of the word "witchcraft" in the novel, which is a word also used specifically in the Bible. To someone who doesn't know Harry Potter's story, they get offended that a child's book contains something that the Bible warns against.

Just like with Wizard of Oz... it got a lot of heat for having a "good witch". People were up in arms, saying there was no good witchcraft. On the other hand, Mary Poppins has never been campaigned against, even though some might consider her a "witch" who performs good magic.

It is not offensive to all Christians.

I am a Christian, maybe not a good one. I do not find Harry Potter offensive, in fact i love the series. i have met a few christians who do not like HP, and a couple who have yelled at me for reading the books. I never got a straight answer from them as to why I shouldnt read them. Some christians are not openminded and think reading about witches and wizards will lead you to Satan. Its silly and completly not rational but thats what they think

I don't find it offensive but most people who do believe that it promotes magic. I think that's stupid though and they blame harry potter when their kid jumps off a counter trying to fly on a broom. Well, who's fault is that? The parent's not harry potter. The way I see it, if you don't like it don't read it. Harry potter isn't going to make everyone become a witch or wizard or promote magic.

I consider myself a good Christian and Harry Potter does not upset me. Those who are upset believe that by portraying magic and witchcraft in a positive light, the series will entice children/teens into exploring the occult, including Satanism and away from Christian faith.

Needles to say I disagree with those folk--Keep in mind that those folk do not speak for all or even a majority of Christians; They just tend to get more publicity.

Going to church regularly does not a good Christian make. Harry Potter is not offensive to good Christians.

I'm a Christian, albeit not a very good one. There are always, and will always be, extremists who will try to dictate how the rest of us live, think, and act.

I think it's interesting that we have some church-goers that condemn the Harry Potter books because it has magic and witches and stuff while praising the Narnia books, which have a lot of Christian symbolism and metaphors, yet also have magic and witches and stuff. Just something to think about.

First I would have to know what your definition of a "good" Christian is. I was in a Bible Study group once when a man, very knowledgeable about the Bible, started putting down the HP series. Witchcraft, magic and fantasy....oh, my!!!! I told him that I found nothing offensive about a book that was about a struggle about good vs. evil and the difficulty in trying to do right when the odds are against you. Then I reminded him about the world famous, highly acclaimed by Christians, book by C. S. Lewis The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. That has mystical creatures, witches etc...... and draws it's parallels from the Bible. What can I say? He shut up. Did I mention that he hadn't even read the HP series???? I told him to read them before he judges. It also helped that his pastor is also my husband and he respects my husband very much :-)

I have read that a pretty good chunk of the stuff that she puts in there is actual witchcraft that she got from a spell book. This upsets some people. I have also read that for the heroes, Harry and Ron do things kind of on the shady side and don't pay consequences for their mistakes. I haven't read on the subject in a while.
