Either the Regency Period or the Roaring Twenties. I love the architecture, interiors, clothing and manners of the Regency Period, although I suspect I would find it quite stifling.

The Twenties were such a period of hope, change and excitement - it would be a lot of fun. Assuming I was rich, of course!

Hi Peter,

if I could choose any period of history it would be one I've already lived through...the 1950's and 1960's...Why?

When I was a teenager I (like most teenagers) thought I knew everything. I didn't, but knowing what I know now about the things that have changed the world since those times would mean a big change in direction for me.

Imagine knowing the forthcoming introductions of technology, where to invest your money, what kind of work to go for and so on...Yes, I would undoubtedly by far wealthier now if I could do it all again.

That isn't possible, of course, so I'm pretty content to have survived all these decades and to be living as I do now.

After 63 years to get so many things wrong, I'm happy to have got so many things right. I live in a part of the world where the way of life is pretty 'laid back', where no-one stresses out over daily happenings, where people still call out greetings as they walk through the streets every day. (Yes, walk! Most people have cars, but we go through the streets here in Spain, with a smile and with time for a chat to any and everyone.)

Overall, I think I'm happier here and now.

Cheers,

BobSpain

what a great question !!!!!!

well let me see.......

I would like to live in Roman times and they were the most sophisticated people of theier time. that said I would have to be a well off citizen or high up in the Army and not a slave or commoner - very hard.

Also during the Viking invasions - but again I'd want to be a viking as i would want to be raped or pillaged by a gigantic Norseman.

1066 would be a good year, but only from a Norman point of view, so i guess Id have to be william the conqueror.

Next stop would be around the time of Henry the VIII, because it was a time of great change and turmoil. He also probably wasnt the complete lunatic that history has portrayed him.

I wouldnt mind visiting America, before the white man ruined it although I'd have to have been a native american as Id stick out like a sore thumb, being white!!!

The times of the Stuarts in scotland and england would be cool too as again science and religion were at great odds, plus I'd get to see the gunpowder plot and ask ole Guido, how he felt about being rememberd as a failure for not succeeding on blowing up parliament and now being burnt ever year!!

I repeat great question.

I could go on and on and on........

perhaps in my next life I'll be Dr Who?

It would be today. The information age is the most fascinating age in all history. The second most interesting is the Enlightenment which helped form our founding documents, but I can't say I'd actually want to live back in that age of reduced technology, disease prevention, and freedom from religion.

There are several periods I would like to visit and come back from. Public sanitation, paved roads, are a good thing. That being said, I would enjoy visiting Scotland in the 1300's...had relatives there then.

I would also like to see ancient Greece...the Indus civilization and Asia. All with return tickets.

I'd live some 50-70 years ago. Seems like a kinder, gentler America (yes, despite the Depression and war). Less busy and impersonal, and values like thrift, homemade/homegrown stuff were in the vogue. Plus, it seems that era wasn't so greedy with possessions. Wasn't a "crime" to be poor, either.

17th Century - hard life, but the food and ale was said to be excellent. Not only that but my idea of nirvana is a wood fire, thick tallow candles, lashing weather outside and a flaggon of deep red wine...
