I believe that they should. It is the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Influence, the Hall of Virtuoso Musicianship, the Hall of Longevity, the Hall of Justice for Underappreciated Bands, the Hall of Popular Music as Art, or the Hall of Reminding Today's Youth How Superior Our Music was Because Rock and Roll Was Socially Relevant and Revolutionary Back Then and Now it is Not. The Monkees were famous and continue to be famous. Some room should be made in the Hall of Fame for the famous. Their popularity has stood the test of time. I'm humming "The Last train to Clarksville" right now. It's rather catchy.

No, they belong in the TV hall of fame. They weren't even musicians when they started! Sales is not a measure of musical success. That said, they did learn their craft quite well but if you are really thinking about music there are many many more deserving musicians.

A band like The Velvet Underground is a much better candidate because although they only sold a fraction of the albums they had a much much bigger influence on the world of music (and I don't mean popular culture in general I mean music)

I used to live next to the hall of fame.

That's not really an answer.

But it IS a fact.

There's a lot of bands in there that probably by most standards shouldn't be.
