what happens if you get caught at customs with a cuban cigar?

I came through customs from Mexico into Texas with Cuban cigars They dont care just dont have a cuban stamp on your passport and dont have 20 boxes of cigars

If you are lucky Customs will allow you to abandon them.... but you can be filed on for attempting to bring in items from Cuba or smuggling. Under OFAC rules and regulations items can only come directly from Cuba and you have to have travel to Cuba legally.

You'll end up buying the cheap stuff at an airport shop.

Don't advertise the fact. Put them into your checkin luggage. You can always say they are your personal items, not for resale. Technically, they will take them if there is a search.
