It must have started thousands of years ago and it is now societies way of thinking but i was wandering where the whole 'women are the weaker sex' thing originated.

If it is pure science that women dont have the same level of testosterone than men then that stands to reason.

I was also thinking over the many years has it become the normal way of thinking that women actually embrace the 'weaker sex' term as it portrays a message of women loving being feminine and protected by the stronger male?

I will say it right here, right now.............strong women are sexy! hands down!!

Women also can be strong and feminine

and yet when a guy meets a strong woman, he feels his role as protector is threatened.

In this modern world, do you all still believe women are the weaker sex?

Question 1: Women became known as the weaker sense probably because before written history and the growth of civilization, they were physically limited due to the whole child-birth thing. Factor in their motherly instincts, and it was natural that they would tend to stay and do the work at "home," while the men went out to hunt or fight. In a sense, women WERE weaker, but only because their chance of survival was limited due to childbirth. Mentally, of course, this was not true, but until the invention of language, writing, and civilization in general, mental processes were not as important as physical strength and health. When civilization finally kicked in, men were used to dominating, and grew into the role. Not wanting to lose power, they harped on the "weak sex" argument for centuries so that they would remain in charge. I am generalizing a little here, though, because there is evidence that women DID take part in hunting and that men DID take part in raising children, but it was in a much more limited role than today. Generally speaking, it was a natural necessity.

Question 2: In the modern world, men and women are essentially the same. At their best, men are physically stronger, but that is mostly irrelevant in this world, and there are many exceptions. In the end, the strength or weakness of gender in general is irrelevant as well. All that really matters is the strength of the individual. If you are a woman, and you are mentally tough, intelligent, and strong, then you have as much right as anyone to do what you want. Individuals matter more than gender, or race, or culture.

Marija Gimbutas was born in 1925 in Lithuania. She was an archaeologist - mostly of Indo-European history. She says that the Christians spreading the word didn't persevere as far as her country so she was brought up in the old Pagan faith and worshipping the Goddess. Her archaeological discoveries suggested that there were three waves of marauders that swept across Europe from Russia down to the Mediterranean, with men on chariots burning & pillaging as they went. Other historians suggest that great movements like that were often motivated by starvation, caused by drought, and would ezxplain the huge invasions. Civilization changed in the Mediterranean from 4000BC and continued until 2500BC due to these incursions and it may have been these men who crushed a beautiful civilisation of women.

The thingification and brutalisation of women appears to have started then. It continues up to the present so I am sorry if the role of the Chivalrous Knight has been driven underground, but it didn't last very long even then did it?.

Women are technically weaker ( I know I am at least) but I don't like to feel weak. So I get what you're saying, I also just don't understand women who say they want to feel protected by a man. My theory is that the media makes women out as such beautiful butterflies. Many women are actually scared by the fact that they're more similar to men than that (body odour, farting, bad skin etc) and that maybe if they emphasize the obvious differences (one of which being strength) they can become one of those beautiful butterflies. Wanting to be weak in this day and age is so foolish... there's a quote somewhere I read once (possible paraphrasing)... "Men are meant to protect women" "From who? Small children and rabbits?"

NO! I do not subscribe to that archaic way of thinking. My wife and every woman I have ever been strongly attracted to has been strong, but I do not believe women should play football, or be on the battlefield. The reason why is simple...women are the bearers of life and if they die in battle, that is one less woman to keep our species alive. As for football...come on...do you want to see a woman take a hit from some rampaging defensive back? I agree with you...women are strong and like the saying goes, behind every great man...there is an even better woman!!!

Men. Thats where the idea came from. Why the women went along with it, I don't know. Women never where and never will be the weaker sex, they're just strong in different ways.

the "weaker sex" refers to the fact that no woman has or ever will have the same muscle mass, or potential for it as a man. Men are physically stronger. (it is a genetic fact) But I guarantee you women are stronger than men in other ways. I suspect if men had to give birth the species would have died out long ago, lol.

Men started it and women let them. But then there is the term in the Bible, God created woman as a help mate for man.
The truth of it is, we'll probably never know.
