Take a fairly common theme and make it your own.
One example:
Girl meets boy, they like each other but something or someone interferes, they overcome obstacles and in the end they get together.
You need a beginning, a middle and an end.
You need a protagonist and antagonist
Maybe you could base your main character on you and the antagonist on a girl or teacher you don't don't like much :-) )
You do one where 'good' kids and 'bad' kids have to come together to overcome an even worse adversary (a teacher, someone destroying the environment, something historical in their town... you name it)
I'm sure you'll find an idea that you can have fun with.
Good luck!

Think of what a person would want to sing about. Probably emotions, so love, joy, wonder could work. How about an Alice In Wonderland style musical? Someone with a boring life could be longing for adventure or for something interesting to happen. The first song could be called "Expecting a Surprise"
o/` Oh, I'm expecting a surprise any minute now...o/`
Then at the end of this hopeful and whimsical song, the main character looks around disapointedly and the stage fades to darkness.
Then she/he could still be looking for excitement while siblings or friends are out having fun without her/him because they're making their own adventures. They could sing a song to her/him to get her/him to join in.
At the end the main character could receive a surprise letter in the mail and her/his eyes go wide but the content isn't revealed. It could be an invitation to a costume party...
Hmm, or it could be she/he received the letter by mistake and it was intended for someone else and she/he is looking into the adventures of someone else- a letter saying someone's off to war or something negative to remind him/her that there's such a thing as too much adventure so she/he goes off to have fun with friends finally.
Off the top of my head there, good luck!

Write a musical about a girl like yourself having to write a musical. That way, you can use all the material you would normally have to edit - plus, it could be really funny.

do a shakespeare and start off with an existing storyline (not necessarily stage play etc)
then add subplots, change things around, mess around with the ending, change characters
just to give you somewhere to start because that's the hardest
also i think a gd play/musical/whatever should have a message- so decide on one

You need two things for a musical:
Plot (duh, I know)
Songs (duh, again, I know)
Here's one way to tackle each:
Plot:
Use a fairy tale. Disney does it all the time. Use contemporary dialogue and contemporary references. For example, when we did "Beauty and the Beast" in Dubai about ten years ago, the Witch commands the Prince, "Marry me!", to which he replies, "Who are you? Camilla Parker Bowles?" Upon which she turns him into the Beast. Cracked the house up, I can tell you.
Songs:
Songs move the action along in a musical. They also form "distractors" while sets are changed. Decide where you want a song to take the action to the next stage. Use tunes in the public domain (like "Frere Jacque") and put your own words to them.
Voila! Musical!
All the best.
