Don't worry about explaining how seasons work that is clear. Just this temperature difference between seasons. ie why is the sun's effect cooler when it is perpendicular to 23.5N than it is at 23.5S?

The Earth is actually closer to the Sun during summer in the Southern Hemisphere, and farther from the Sun during winter in the Southern Hemisphere.
