A woman who weighs 5.04 x10^2 N is leaning against a smooth vertical wall, as the drawing shows.
Has a picture of a wall leaning against a wall at a right angle. The angle is 60 degrees. From her feet to her stomach the distance is 1.10m and .440 m above her stomach to her shoulders.
a) Find the force FN (directed perpendicular to the wall) exerted on her shoulder by the wall.
(b) Find the horizontal component of the force exerted on her shoes by the ground.
(c) Find the vertical component of the force exerted on her shoes by the ground.

Start by drawing a free body diagram of the forces involved. You have the woman making a triangle with the wall, angled at 60deg to the horizontal ground. Her weight, W, (assumed to act at her stomach) acts vertically. There is a horizontal force of her shoulder on the wall. At her feet is a vertical force of the ground holding her up and a horizontal force to keep her from sliding away from the wall.

To find the force on the wall (Fn), you need to sum the moments (the force * distance from the rotation point) about her feet:
W*1.10 cos 60 - Fn*1.54 sin 60 = 0, or
Fn = 504*0.55/1.33 = 208.4N, acting from the wall into her shoulder (assume left to right).

To find the other forces, you need to sum the vertical forces and the horizontal forces equaling 0.

There are two horizontal forces, her shoulder on the wall and her feet on the ground, so the horizontal force of her feet on the ground is equal to the force on the wall, 208.4N, acting opposite Fn, assuming right to left.

There are two vertical forces, her weight and the ground on her feet. So, the vertical force of the ground on her feet is equal to her weight, 504 N, acting upwards.
