42% of our troops are coming back from Iraq with mental problems and many are not getting any treatment. Mental health experts are leaving the service in droves due to overwork and stress. Is this yet ANOTHER facet of going to war that this administration didn't even think about? Are they that dilusional? Are they that uncaring that they didn't even think about our brave men and women and what they would need after being in a combat zone?
I guess it's no surprise since none of them came close to anything approaching combat. This group of clowns just don't care! They don't care about you, me, or especially our troops!

Since 'conservatives' are only concerned in short-term everything it is impossible for them to plan anything beyond their next day trade.
The long-term societal fallout of this issue - thousands of homeless vets living on the streets, commiting suicide, destroying families - is something the rich can avoid as they pass through life in their window-tinted SUVs living in their gated communities.
They are cruel because they are self-obsessed and interested only in instant gratification.

The Neo-Cons in this administration have no idea what they have done to these veterans. As a Vietnam vet corpsman, I know a little about PTSD.
The trauma never leaves and those who have served in Iraq have 24/7 fear. There isn't a minute of the day when a bomb can't explode. At least in Vietnam there were days when I felt safe for a while and when I didn't expect something horrific to happen.
I know what some of these vets are going to feel in 40 years. I've blogged several times in the past few years about the tragedy of PTSD and what our country can expect. Believe me... There will be new levels of trauma experienced by these brave and wonderful Americans.
Hell is too good for the monsters in this administration who sent them into this quagmire! And the truth is: the other comments are right when they say Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld could not care less about what these "REAL" patriots will suffer for the next 3 or 4 decades.

What is most sad is not the statistic but that the administration knew ahead of time (or should have known) that cutting corners on military care is a bad thing. Poorly thought out, poorly executed and now, if we decide that we love our children and adore human life, we are called surrender. It is NOT patriotic to die for your country. It is patriotic to live and help your country thrive.
This type of 'injury' has always been around - except in previous wars, it was disguised by alcohol and drugs. It makes me wonder if we have progressed above a middle school intelligence...

Vinnie it is NOT a choice. There ARE no mental rehab services for vets, there are barely PHYSICAL rehab services for vets, due to Bush cutting 2 Billion from the VAs budget in 2006.
Of course they dont care. Just keep shovelling kids who joined because its the only way they'll ever get to college, banking their lives and body parts for a chance to live the American Dream. into the War Machine.
IF they survive unscathed, they are in the vast minority. When they come home, they are told, sorry Big Oil needed those funds for subsidies and an Iraqi kid got your artificial leg.
We are creating a whole new generation of disturbed homeless vets who cannot get along in society. And the fact that Repubicans supported Bushs pay and benefit cuts for these soldiers, Republicans BTW who don't even know how to give a proper military salute, let's me know how much they "support the troops"

It's not about this administration. It's about the horrors of war and the ever-evolving field of psychology. Do you think the veterans of World War II were more prepared than the soldiers in this conflict? No, the only difference is that we have better diagnosing tools than before. For you to ask this question is nothing but pure partisan spin.

I would actually be a little more freeked out if after killing dozens in a war zone our soldiers came home without any mental problems. If they did, they were probably psycho to begin with. It's a sign of our soldiers humanity that they're upset about being in war.

The same thing happened in Vietnam....you cannot witness your friends getting blown up and be the same when you come back. Actually, part of the appropriations bill that Bush and the Congress finally agreed upon supplied additional funds to address mental health and traumatic brain injuries, two areas that have been overlooked.

Combat changes a person, sometimes when you leave a combat zone the combat doesn't leave you. Hope the VA is geared up for the kids coming back and able to offer them help EARLY, that is the key.

We'll pay a price for it too. A lot of crazed vets running around.
It's time though for the troops to stand up and end this war.
Refuse to fight.
I've heard that the government is recruiting immigrants for the military. Illegal immigrants.

I heard on the radio they have a new budget for mental health care for these soldiers , they will be adding 300 million to pay for more doctors , I guess they should have consulted Nostradamus to see how many doctors they needed in 2001 or should have hired you since you would have known exactly 42% of soldiers would have came back with mental problems
