Something that can capture the reader's attention immediately. I remember the first time I ever picked up a Stephen King book, it was bag of Bones (a fairly recent novel in terms of his back catalogue). I read the first page and I was hooked. It's incredible how someone can do that to you. I didn't think the book was that good, but it still kept me reading. That's good writing!!

For me good writing is someone who can describe something so clearly you have no trouble seeing it in your mind, and there is an easy flow to the story. I love it when I realize that I'm half way through the book and have missed my bus stop, forgotten to cook dinner, or that I have to get up in just a few hours but can't put the book down.

You could probably get a million different answers on that question... I think it's different to almost everyone, but personally I love books with many good dialogues and a good language, but that's just me. I love to get into the carachter's thoughts too, but I often get unpatient and start to skip pages to find the next dialogue... Hope this was the kind of answer you were looking for.

For me, giving the work all the effort I have, and trying to write the best I can.

In reading other writer's work, I don't know that I could single out too much--just having good grammar, and a wonderful plot, with wonderful characters. I'm describing Dickens, my inspiration.:-)

Good writing is something that captures the reader's attention fully and completely and when they're finished reading makes them want more and makes they think. Good writing is also something that the writer feels satisfied with, knowing that they've put their best effort and part of themselves into trying to create something that connects with the reader.
