Apparently this film was banned back in the day but not its not any more, but I've heard its a pretty twisted film.

Has anyone seen it and what is actually that bad about it? Did it really scare you?

I'm not easily scared but I would really like to find a film that gives me sleepless nights - they just dont make them like the used to. lol

Scary? Not in the usual sense. More trying for disturbing and unsettling; how sucessful it's going to be at that depends upon your tolerance for extreme film violence and your sensitivities.

LHoL is more noteable today for it's minor role in film history, as one of Wes Craven's very early films, and an example of the early-seventies ultraviolent suspense genre.

Added: If you're looking for sleepless nights, you're gonna have your work cut out for you with American fare. If you're looking for films with great creepy atmosphere, try some Japanese horror, particularly the Ringu and Ju-on series. On the other hand, if gore does it for you, the Italians do it best, especially Mario Bava and Dario Argento.

I have! it was one of Wes Craven's first films. I believe there was a remake on it. It is not a scary movie at all. I suppose that, just like all novice directors, Wes was aiming at shock. The movie is about a group of bad dudes that decide to rob this house. The killings are brutal. That was the big deal about it. By today's standards, it is not a brutal movie. The acting, on the otehr hand, can be considered....cheessssyyy. Go rent it and then watch A Nightmare on Elm Street, even if you've seen it before. Compare the two. You'll spot Craven's style eventually.

oh man, i could NOT believe the twist. It's of course not the first time that House is injured, but the twist with Amber was completely unexpected for me. It's just not at all where I thought they'd be taking her character. And I felt SO terrible for Wilson when House said Amber's name at the end. Oh! It's gonna be a long week til next Monday!

I've seen it. It is not scary but it is very disturbing. There is sexual abuse (rape) and voilence. If that kind of thing bothers you, I would recommend watching Ingmar Bergman's Jungfrukällan (The Virgin Spring). It is the movie Last House of the Left was based on, but not as graphic - a good way to avoid sleepless nights!

i seen it a few years back, but it didn't shock me, i think it was a bigger deal back then. but by todays standards and generation it wasn't too bad, very rarely does a film give me sleepless nights, but i could mention a japanese film entitled " the audition " and the original texas chainsaw massacre, but it probably depends on how easily scared you are.

I have the dvd...it is one of Wes Cravens EARLY movies.

It was rated X at the time for the violence, rape scenes and torture scenes. Now it would be rated NC-17

It is a very good story, plotline and acting.

Last House on the Left is about excaped cons and ones girlfriend that kidnap two girls out for the night(ones birthday)
They are taken to the woods near the girls house...and all hell breaks loose.

When a Stranger Calls is about the babysitter.

Yeah, some escape convicts terrorize some people in a house and do really bad stuff to them. Not scary really.

The best part of this movie was the trailer. They kept repeating.

"Keep telling yourself, it's only a movie"
"Keep telling yourself, it's only a movie"
