I just received a USB 2.0 EP Memory Mini Flash Drive. I can't seem to get it to work. I plug it in to usb port, and the red light comes on, but theres no where to access it that I see. Nothing shows up in my computer, and nothing in system tray. It does say, This Device Can Perform Faster in a popup window, but thats it. I'm running windows xp. Please help.

The message is telling you that the USB ports hardware on your computer are only USB 1.1. The version of Windows has nothing to do with whether the ports are 1.1 or the faster 2.0. It is hardware. You would have to physical change the ports to make them into USB 2. With a flash drive, the difference in speed is not going to be noticable.

If the drive is not showing up, go into the Control Panel, and the System icon. Go to the Hardware tab and click on the Device Manage button.
Look to see if there are any "unknow" devices, or devices with a yellow ! triangle in front of them. Right click on any an uninstall them. Remove and replace the Flash drive and see if Windows detects it now.

If it is still not found, in the Device Manager go to the USB section of the hardware listing, click the + in front of it to expand that section. Uninstall everything in the USB section. Reboot the computer. This will clear out any previous USB configurations and force Windows to redetect all the USB devices. Hopefully that will get the Flash drive working for you.

On some computers (especially if they are USB 1.1), if you plug a USB device into one port, and next time plug it into another, it can confuse the PC and it wouldn't see the device. Doing an uninstall and redetecting of the USB ports clears all the information and get them working right again.

If your computer is old, then you might have the older USB version 1.1 ports in your computer. You can get the much faster 2.0 ports by purchasing a USB 2.0 PCI card.

To access your drive, double click the My Computer icon on the desktop and you should then see an icon for the USB Flash drive. Double click the icon to bring up Windows Explorer.
If you right click the icon and click on Auto Play, you can tell Windows what to do whenever you plug in the Flash drive (e.g. automatically pop up Windows Explorer).
Keep in mind that if you plug the Flash drive into a different port the next time, Windows will think that the Flash drive is a different device, and you might have to set the Auto Play again.

Check if it shows up in disk manager by right clicking my computer and choose manage. Click on disk management. This will show you a list of drives.

If your USB device shows here then right click on it and choose "Change drive letter" or "Assign letter". Give it a drive letter by selecting a free one and click OK.

Now check if it appears in my computer.

comp might be old, if worst comes to worst... you can buy things which you plug into your usb port, and on the other end it has many usb holes..( newer ones) they are pretty cheap <£10 i would guess

Browse your drives in windows explorer or "My Computer". It should be added in your list of drives (usually below your Cd/DVD drives).
