There are many charitable organizations everywhere to help short term with daily and monthly obligations but you cannot live like that for long term. Non-profits are a short term solution. I advise that you do use those resources meanwhile but also look for work.
Alot of staffing (temporary) work companies are across the U.S. There is no reason for you to not find a job although, alot of times we may feel this way. They work with you to place you with work. These companies will place you in a setting with the skills you currently have. Many companies do hire in using staffing companies too.
I am posting links below to staffing companies that have locations in many cities nationwide. You did not say what state you live in so, you will need to find your city on their list and go from there. Also, I am including links to different types of work since you did not list your skills.
Everything will get better. Good Luck in all you do.

4 kids and you have to look after them means you haven't become old of not getting a job. try to get job anywhere library, petrol pumps, shopping malls, super markets, i mean there are many ways to get one and mind it.. there is seriously no harm in doing any sort of a job until and unless anything illegal is being involved. You work hard and hard work always pays off.
All the Best~! and yes make ure kids study.. study study and study and tell them the importance of money.

Contact your local Red Cross, They can always help people in need. Especially people with children, They will not let you walk away empty handed, if they can't help you, they will send you in the right direction...
