USB Device not recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it.

I have been using this drive for ages (Buffalo 160 GB External hard drive) but when i turned my computer on today that message came up. Please help

its not a matter of power it has external power

You can try this:
Unplug the drive, turn off the drive and reboot. After rebooting, turn on the drive and plug the drive into the same USB port. Windows should recognise the device. If it doesn't then try another USB port.

appears like your rigidity's USB interface is taking section in up. attempt a diverse USB port in case it is your laptop's port it is have been given a skill undertaking. If that isn't, get a sparkling USB case off eBay and located the disk rigidity into it.

Sounds like your drive's USB interface is playing up.

Try a different USB port in case it's your computer's port that's got a power problem.

If it isn't, get a new USB case off eBay and put the disk drive into it.

Go to device manager and see if the device shjows there with an "!", click it and click remove.
Shut down PC, unplug the drive,
power on PC, plug in drive again, let it refind itself, should work again.

Check that the USB ports, are enabled in the BIOS.
