considering the level of corruption, adultery, and more in government officials who claim to be "christian", it would actually be more morale to elect those who are not Christian.

If we elect someone who does not have the same moral values as we ourselves have then we are selling out and in a way, legislating sin. Those who say they can separate their religious beliefs from their political decision making process are either hypocrites or liars. In other words, if you are truly a Christian it should a part of every moral thought you process.

I would not vote for someone who did not believe in a judeo/christian ethic, and that religiously. I do not think the one necessarily claiming Christianity the loudest (with the most buzzwords out there) is the best candidate based upon such by itself however.

In answer to your question though...yes I think by electing men and women who deny this ethic, we do end up with these people attempting to legislate sin. On that I think there is little doubt.

Not as long as the Constitution states there is a separation of church and State Government. Which should be up held. The laws of this land do not need religious belief in them to govern the people. There are millions of other religious beliefs besides Christianity.

There are so many different religions that I am not sure that we are sinning by not electing christians. I think it is more of a question of can a person in office be a devout christian with the types of decisions that they have to make?

it depend on whether you don't elect them because they are christians or you don,t elect them becuase you are of the opinion they can't do the job.if the former be the case then you sin but if not it's not sin.

No. Your question assumes that any non-Christian lawmaker is sinful and will vote unethically.

in the United States we celebrate freedom of religion and also hold to the seperation of church and state. That's one of many reasons America rocks.

Why does someone's religion dictate how they act as a legislator? I think it does not, and that religion is not relevent to the way someone acts in office.
