witches I believe exist but yet again I was raised in Salem MA. Yes they know that they use witchcraft/spells. You should really do a search as to what exactly witchcraft is. Many people believe it's different things. As to what witchcraft is it's only what you believe it is. Per the dictionary it states "1. Magic; sorcery.
2. Wicca.
3. A magical or irresistible influence, attraction, or charm"

As to how do you know if a person is a witch you don't unless they tell you. Do a search on witchcraft, I think you will find it interesting. Do a search on Wicca.

This is going to depend a bit upon how you define witchcraft - if you define it as being in line with what you see in the movies (i.e. cauldrons, lighting from fingers, ect) then, no witches do not exist. However, most modern practitioners of witchcraft will define it as manipulating energies to influence the outcome of an event - think in line with weighting dice to have the come up as 7.

As what what witchcraft is exactly is hard to say - it usually involves various ritual and actions to try and influence things that may come to be.

Witches don't come from anywhere per se, anyone has the potential to be come a witch through their own free choice; however, some may be more naturally talented than others - similar to sports.

There is really no way to tell if someone is a witch unless they tell you.

Witch is a far ranged term. It can mean like the charmed ones on tv, horrible things in childrens stories, or just someone who believes in two higher powers than one and who works with nature.
Witchcraft is something entirely different. Witchcraft is like the glue that holds glitter to paper. Without the magick wouldnt "stick" to anything.
You will find witches, wiccans, pagans all over the world
You will never know if they practice that belief unless they tell you.

)0( May they be with you

There are witches all around you. In every state, from every walk of life. Some of us are part of a religion called "Wicca" and some of us just consider ourselves "Pagans". Some of us choose to use witchcraft which is nothing more or less than using focus and ritual to bring about the manifestation of a desired outcome. There is no such thing as white, grey or black magic despite what you will hear. It's both because everything is both. Just like a car is not good or bad, but you can use it to help yourself and others, or you can use it to hurt someone. We dont float, we dont weight the same as a duck (Monty Python reference) and we dont turn into cats, or bats or fly on brooms. Witchcraft is a way of life. Paganism and Wicca are real realigions. There is a lot of hype that's been spread through the years, and Hollywood doesnt help matter much...

Yes witches do exist. Certain witches can use different forms of the craft, like Voodoo, Hoodoo, Wicca, White Magic, and Black Magic. Many witches come from all around the world like Haiti, New Orleans, New York, California, to be or become a witches you do not new any particular back round as of where you were born. You will not know if someone is a witch unless they actually tell you. They will not broadcast it, because it is a form of religion, You have to really be trusted in order for a witch to allow you in there home and or life style.

Yes witches exist, yes they use witchcraft. To understand witchcraft(which literally means "craft of the wise") you need to understand what Magick is. Magick is Energy, pure and simple. Energy can only be transmuted, not created or destroyed, so it would stand to reason that the Magick is here, in us, around us. Magick, in and of itself, is the ability to create or effect change, USING NON PHYSICAL MEANS.
Think of witchcraft as a trade; like blacksmithing for example.
Witches utilize everything, because everything has energy, in their workings, or spells if you will; a blacksmith has the anvil, forge, plowshare and other various tools, ergo Witch/Witchcraft Blacksmith/Blacksmithing.
There is a difference between Witches and Wiccans. Wiccans follow a path, elementally and spiritually based. Witches, the manipulation (and not in a bad way) of energy.
Last but not least, I can only speak from personal experience myself, that I can sense if someone practices Magick. It's an odd sensation, really....lol....but not a bad one. Witches, Wiccans Magickal people really don't advertise the fact that they are.....Mainly because our PR track record for oh the last couple of thousand years hasn't been the greatest.
Love and light to you,
Blessed Be

Okay. A couple points of clarification here.

Not all Wiccans are "witches" (not all who follow the Wiccan religion practice magic).

Not all witches are Wiccan (not all who practice magic follow the Wiccan religion).

Wicca is a religion. Witchcraft is a tool. The two are not synonymous.

Yes, there are those who practice witchcraft and are considered witches. It's not like "Charmed" or "Buffy". They come from all walks of life and all corners of the globe, and odds are you wouldn't know it if you met them.

How do you know if a person is a witch? If they feel like it, they'll tell you.

Yes. Witches are those who practice Wicca, which is a pagan religion. Magic is only what you chose to believe it is. I could dance around a fire and burn herbs and chat all I liked, but that wouldn't necessarily make me fly or something. But then again, there's magic in just laying under the stars and listening to the night. Its all a matter of perception. Witchcraft is attempting in influence the world around you, for whatever purpose, hopefully a good one. Witches come from all over, they aren't born, they're what they chose to be. I wasn't born a witch, but I chose to be one, and now I am. There's a little magic in everybody. There's magic in just a beating heart. That's all there is too it. I could tell you cars are magic, you could tell me their science, and we'd both be right. Perception my dear, perception.

Yes they do. Yes they do. Witchcraft is hard to define because people have different aspects of what it is and isn't. They come what is called the "old religion" which was around long before Christianity. Some are obvious and some you would never even suspect.

My father swares to me that my great grandmother was a witch. She was born on halloween and died on halloween exactly 100 years later. She did practice Wicca, a polytheistic neopagan religion based on nature. Many people today practice Wicca, and some people consider it an extension of old ideas of witchcraft. As far as old hags with warts on their noses who turn people into toads... I don't think so.
