the Yankees? Maybe because I was born and raised in NY I don't have an outsider's perspective. I usually just chaulk it up to jealousy because I live in the greatest city in the world and get to see the most succesful franchise in sports history play whenever I want. I'm just curious to see what other fans views are. (Obviously Red Sox fans have a valid excuse for hating the Yankees, no explanation needed, they get a free pass)

well i am a red sox fan, but i think a reason besides that is because they seem to buy all their players, so it's just because they have money that they have a good team, lot's of other teams couldn't afford to (waste) money on roger clemens but the yankees easily bought him up. Also maybe some of the players antics, such as A-Rod slaping the ball out of the red sox hands, and (falsely being accused) of calling for a ball while running to base, or giambi's steriods...i wasn't aware that everyone hated them though, besides the red sox fans

I have no idea. I don't understand they loyalty of any fan to any pro franchise in any sport. There was a time when athletes were like any other working stiff. They worked hard for not enough pay. Now the owner of the franchise can actually be losing money on the team while the players are millionaires. What's worse is the athletes don't seem to appreciate that the fans are what has made them millionaires. If your child wants a signature, they start at $50 and go up from there. But if the players want to go on strike for more money they want the support of the fans. Even owners have no loyalty to the cities that support them. They can pick up their team and move them if another city makes them a more attractive offer. And don't even get me started on the cost! A father could take his family to a game without taking a second mortgage on their home. So why do fans act as if they own the team? The team owns them!

I've got no beef with the Yankees as a team. There are a lot of Yankees fans that are just flat out jerks. They come to see the Yankees play the Royals in Kansas City and act completely classless and rude. It seems that they think having the better team gives them that right. Now I can't say if these are Yankees fans are from New York, because I don't know them but if they're not from New York you should be pissed at them because they give you and your city and bad name.

As an Orioles fan, I don't hate all of the Yankees. A lot of fans still retain sore memories of the "homerun" catch by Jeffrey Maier in the 1996 ALCS that altered the outcome of the game and the series.

I've moved past that, but as for Yankee fans. I've gone to a couple of Orioles/Yankees games at Camden Yards. I don't really mind if you show up and root respectfully for the visiting team (I've done that before myself). However a good number of Yankee fans take it far beyond cheering, more so when the Yankees do something good like score a run, or get a key strikeout, some of the fans will rub it in the faces of Orioles fans.

Some will also complain if you stand up and block their view all the meanwhile cheering for your team in any situation where most fans would be on their feet (example: 2 outs in the top of the 9th with your closer on the mound in a save situation).

I've also chattering about nothing to do with baseball, just taking cheap shots and trashing Baltimore. Yeah it's not NY, but without some of the history that took place in Baltimore, NY or this country itself might not exsist as we know it today.

Secondly with a disillusioned fanbase with a huge blame on Angelos for the lack of the Orioles success not selling out Oriole Park, Yankee fans can feel like they've taken over the place and boast about it. Good luck finding any large group of NYers trying to take over M&T Bank stadium for a Giants or Jets game against the Ravens. That's not happening.

So I think there is a lot of dislike for the Yankees comes from other teams fans dealing with rude Yankees fans.

Its funny because it is always a Yankee fan who thinks everybody hates their team. I don't even care about the Yankees. Maybe some people don't like the Yankees because they spend so much money on players or whatever, but if they got it spend it. The spending allows the fans to keep on being cocky and puffy chested, then they ask why people hate the Yanks, its not the team...its you. Some may chuckle when the Yankees don't win, just to hear the fans reaction. The Yankees have won 9 straight...against teams they should have beaten anyways, but 3 weeks ago, There was no Yankee boasting happening on Yahoo Answers. I wish the Yankees luck though, A-Rod and Jeter are awesome players.

Easy answer - because they were successful in the late 1990's, there was this big jump on the Yankee bandwagon. So there are a ton of these obnoxious Yankee fans. And a large portion of these are from outside the Yankees broadcasting area - so they are the worst.
I don't hate them. The money they spend does not bother me either. I hate Red Sox fans a lot more. But true New Yorkers - they are fine.

I don't necessarily hate the Yankees. In fact there are guys on that team I actually like. But I am a Mets fan, and it's kinda what happens when you have cross town rivals. Haha so since the Yankees beat the Mets for the world series title in 2000, I hate them. I'm still bitter about that. Lol.

Obviously, not everybody hates the Yankees. But, most people are tired of the rich getting richer. The Yankees try to buy championships and most people like to see the "little guy" or the smaller market franchises have success. I would hardly call the Nets, Mets, Jets and Giants the most successful franchises in sports history!

When you hear the word "hate" I believe in most cases you can replace it with the word "respect". The word "FAN" is short for FANatic and that is what most fans are, fanatic about their team. They don't like to see their team get beat and most teams have lost more than they have won when facing the Yankees. How many times have you heard anyone say they hate the Kansas City Royals, except maybe their own fans because they are not winning. Just take it in stride because as long as you keep hearing the word "hate" when referring to the Yankees, you know they are winning.

The Yankees are like heavy metal music -- it's not the thing itself that's so annoying, it's the sorts of people it attracts.

Yankees fans are sore winners -- victory, having achieved nearly a commonplace status, is no longer invigorating enough alone. So they insist on demeaning all also-ran teams, along with fans thereof. They PREFER being utterly insufferable.

And this year, they're being denied that so far. Even with a nine-game win streak, their faith is being exposed as a false calling. And they're making everyone else have to listen to it incessantly; it's like a 24/7 Oprah show, except that no one outside the cult is willing to validate their feelings.

No one much resents the eleven years of winning -- it's boring because we've seen it far too often -- but that's how the game goes (consider, the Braves won 14 divisions in a row, but no one resents the Braves; their fans tend to be nice, polite). But the continual disparaging of the competitors has eroded any fellow-fan grace they once might have been due. It's their turn to suffer, they don't like it, they have no experience dealing with it, so they're taking it out on everyone else.

...it's the sorts of people it attracts.
