Tell me what is wrong with having people speak the native language while in another country?
If I got to any other country I don't demand they accommodate my lack of understanding their language.
You don’t think that is true go to France and demand the waiter speak French to you and see what your soup tastes like when you get it.

Bert what I am saying is that people should learn the language of the country they are in rather than the other way around.

I see nothing wrong with what he said. I live in California and I see dual signs FOR EVERYTHING. I know for a fact that Mexico or Spain wouldn't cater to my native tongue of English. I think it is lame that we have to do it here. They came to live in an English speaking country. Learn the darn language!

Um if I read what you wrote correcltly, you think Mexicans shouldn't have to learn English in America, but French waiters in France SHOULD have to?
Are you really this crazy?
I was staitoned on an Army Base in Wurzburg Bavaria for 2 years. In that time, I picked up enough German to get by and never insisted ANYONE speak English because I was too lazy to learn their language.
If I were working in Mexico I would learn the language. But I dont work in Mexico I work in the US. and I expect someone who lives here, makes money here and interacts with English speaking Americans to have to learn at least enough English to get by.
Do they have to be English professors? Of course not, but they will never do anything more fulfilling than mowing the white man's lawn, as long as they dont speak the language.
Arnie's point was, if you want to learn a foreign language, dont listen to TV or radio which speaks to you in your original language. That's no way to learn.

Well, he's correct. The best technique to be taught whatever is to absolutely submerge your self within the tradition. By calling him a racist, the Hispanic leaders that experience a trouble with it, they have got a trouble understanding that you just have to talk a well quantity of English to get a well process. If I pass to another nation, even simply to seek advice from, I am anticipated to understand the language. If now not, nobody will support me. The identical precept applies to the US. If you do not wish to make the effort to be taught English, we may not make an effort to support you... no less than many of the residents may not. What irritates me essentially the most is the truth that plenty of areas have the choice of studying in english or spanish. If you're right here, your english will have to be well ample wherein that choice isn't wanted.

True, but we don't expect the French to offer an english version of everything either. Most Americans who stay in France longer than a vacation, make an effort to learn French and don't expect the French government to bend over backwards to accomodate them. In Ca. it's even more mind boggling since most of those who refuse to learn English are illegals.

The fastest way to assimilate is to emerge yourself in the culture. I think you meant moving to France and demanding the waiter speak English.
The reality is we are Americans and speak English.

I think he was just suggesting that listening to English would help those folks who are trying to learn to speak English. It's kind of like saying we need to turn off the computer so we can get those chores done. Soon, EVERYTHING ANYONE says will be scrutinized and it won't matter what language we speak. I mean, GOOD GRIEF.
