When you bought your system there should have been paper work with it, in there you will find the key, other times like in the case of dell, they put a sticker right on the pc with that number... if you got it legitamately, you should have been supplied the number, if you weren't, then i would raise hell with the place you bought it from.

There should be a COA stuck onto your PC... a 1 inch by 3 inch label with the key and some microsoft c**p on it. Use that key.

If you don't have a key then your copy is unlicensed. You have to buy a license to get the key and be able to register or upgrade.

If you have an unlicensed copy bought from a commercial location, talk to Microsoft. thay may give you a (discounted) key in exchange for proof that your were sold a pirate copy.

You should call Microsoft. If it's truly your copy of Windows, they'll give you a number to activate it. If it's not, you will not be able to activate it unless you buy a copy. You can buy a copy for a reasonable price (maybe under $70) on eBay.
