I wish I could; I admit I can be an egotistical little ***** at times, but I'm a recovering self-injurerer, and my parents are ignoring the problem & not helping me by attempting to change their parenting style. Plus, my mom favors my brother and is always gone because he's a very good tennis player and has to go to jr. national tournaments, and she has to take him. He's younger, but I feel like my parents value and respect him more. No matter what I do, it doesn't seem to be good enough for my mom. I even cheated a lot on tests and assignments this last quarter just so I could get all A's and "prove my worth" to her. Sad. Needless to say, I get along better with my dad. Even though I can be very self-centered, I feel my parents need to make an effort at improving our relationship as well.

I had a great relationship with my mother but she died when I was 15. My father is still alive but has never really been a parent to me. We see each other once a year or so but you can't make up for lost time, especially at those rates.

right now my relationship with my mom is as close as it can get, but not my dad. i actually don't have any relationship with him. he walked out my family about two yrs ago and since then i haven't talked to him. i haven't really seen him since. if i could have a chance at a better relationship with him i would not. he doesn't want me and after what he did to me im not gonna let him have the joy of having a daughter. ( lol my mom says that to me a lot)

I do because my mother won't listen to me about anything which is why I never bothered talking to her at all because we never got along at all and never agreed on anything. Plus I have a 17 year old sister who is a bad example for my other sister and I don't approve of it at all. I try to build a better relationship with her as I can't cut off all ties with her or I'll get bad credit from ALLAH(SWT) but she hasn't e-mailed me in like a month.

Yes. But it wasn't possible since my dad left us when I was 18. Never let anyone tell you that divorce doesn't hurt the kids. I'm 34 now and I'm just now starting to try to build a relationship w/my dad.

Yes.
Looking back I was a very selfish teenager who never once looked at my mom as a person- she was never given the respect she deserved from me, and since I had my daughter two years ago, I am constantly apologising and understanding her role, and the sacrifices she made for my siblings and me. She did everything she could for us, yet I was convinced she didn't love me!
Oh, do I know that was wrong now!

I do, My mom and I always fight, doesn't matter what we are talking about we just end up screaming at each other. Even though it is my moms fault. I just wish she would not get so mad because it makes me feel so bad.

I have a great relationship with my parents. I love them to death and they're the coolest adults that I know. ♥
