I have some in my garden but in a strawberry tub. I pick them when they are in the very pink stage with their stalks on. They will carry on ripening if left in a container on a sunny window ledge. You can then transfer them into the fridge when ripe. This allows you to collect a fair few, enough for a desert! To keep birds from pecking at them use a fine net over the plant. Good Luck.

I find that with all soft fruit, I just need to watch the blackbird - you know it's ready when he moves in.
Better to pick strawbs a day early than a day late - they will continue to ripen in the house

you will notice in colour that they will not have any white or green bits on them and will be pure red and jucy. this is the best time to pick them

I wait until they are completely red. Seems like after that, they get dark quickly and are mushy.

more red than green.. thats really it.
my dad has them and just keep an eye on them. when all almost red.. they should be fine
