There will have to be a big event, Katrina was a start, but with Right Wing control of the media, only those with both access to the internet, and the sense to look and understand what they are looking at will be able to make any changes.
There are some Dinos who are not much better than the Gang Of Pirates, and Lieberman is a full fledged member, not any different. But the major crimes are with the GOP.
As for the immigration issue, that is mostly just hype, as it is all the GOP has left to talk about, to take your eyes off the real issues of the Tsunami of corruption the Gang Of Pirates are committing, the terrible things they are doing to and with our brave troops, both in Iraq and when they come home.
That they have already hijacked the elections for 2008 unless they can be outed and stopped, that everything good a government can do has been torpedoed, from protection from anything from natural disasters, to the crazed terrorist at Virginia Tech, to the people like Wm Krar with WMD's in Texas enough to kill millions, to even the stealing of money for the poor in the so called Vulture Fund scandals.
And that doesn't touch the loss of the entire Bill of Rights and Habeas Corpus. It is easy to think you still have those...until you actually need them, and discover they are not there. Even now you could be tossed in jail for years just because a cop thought you were not "Respectful enough" he just charges you with assaulting him, and resisting arrest with violence, and you don't have a prayer.
Total innocence is no defense, and it is your word against his, and you are an accused criminal. This is happening a lot, mostly because there is an atmosphere that they feel able to get away with it because they do.
And also there is the Theofascist fake Christians who are more similar to the Fake Muslim Islamists than to actual Christians who are trying to create a Totalitarian America by subverting most Conservative groups, creating still more Orwellian Front organizations, trying to take over the American Military, and creating a private military with Airforce, Mechanized units, and even a private CIA, and are even more viscous than Islamists in their plans.
The Democrats are moving but it is weak and slow, and most I think have no clue to the real stakes.

Our government , since Clinton, has been a huge failure. I don't know what it will take to change things. Maybe something as simple as convincing Mass. to not re-elect Kennedy, Florida to not re-elect Martinez.
There must be some way to get Congress to pass laws against the lobbyist and special interest groups. Perhaps term limits for Congress. Maybe on Difficult issues, like the Immigration Debacle we are witnessing, should be put to a Nationwide vote.
Maybe on difficult issues like sending troops to war, there should be a National vote. Sure, we could send small peacekeeping forces into areas just to knock down the violence without a vote, but a major operation like Iraq, should receive a majority vote from the families of thos who will be risking their lives. Not by some whim of some backwoods yahoo congressperson who thinks her hubbys company will make a million dollars on a contract.
Government is not going to do anything about securing the borders.
Lets say they do build 700 miles of double fence, landmines in between, two hundred soldiers per mile with orders to shoot to kill, what good will that do, if the government has also installed fifty authorized entry points, and relaxed to requirements to come through? Its worthless. but these are the things our government has in mind. They are devious, it's not about what is written into the legislation, it is about what is not written in.

I think the people have awakened, although they're a little late. Bush's latest poll average has him at 32%, which means less than one in three Americans approve of his job performance. The Congress is polling even lower. No less than six Congressional committees are investigating members of the administration, and a number of Congress members are under investigation, besides the ones who have already been charged with crimes. But the wheels of justice turn slowly (I forget who said that). It's a bad situation, and until the lobbyists are driven out of Washington, it will continue.

A refreshing question but as long as these corrupt politicians make the laws and have millions to pay off the ultra wealthy and make laws that will profit them personally things will continue as they are.
They will not cut off all these perks they have for themselves. The entire system needs to be revised. We need to have absolute 'government in the sunshine'.
Surely wish someone of integrity and brains could educate myself and the general public on how we can stomp out the old system and restore our Country.

You're preachin' to the choir here, brother. So many Americans are in a Paris Hilton stupor or worried about who will win American Idol that they simply aren't involved. I can sort of understand the complacency because, as you say, there isn't a dimes' worth of difference between Dems and Reps.
Every opportunity I get I send emails telling people to fax or call their Congresspeople telling them to secure the d*** border!

Ya i believe Americans are bored stiff with each events, we've got been hoping and hoping for an option to the 2 social gathering procedure for years and years now. The newest feasible 3rd social gathering candidate used to be Ross Perot and he positioned a truly scare into each the Republicans and Democrats. But when you consider that then it's been industry as traditional and each events appear to believe they've a political license to do as they please and notice are compatible!! But i believe we as Americans have ultimately grew to become the nook i real think it is a watershed second in historical past for all American residents. We as a folks have got to "call for" greater executive and "call for" our elected representatives constitute us and no longer their character social gathering!

Ya know when the American people are going to say "Enough is enough?"
When the bill comes due for all these budget deficits and the national debt.....People don't care about scandals as much as they care about their own money.

Are you new to politics?
Here is a piece of advice open up a history book and start on the Roman Senate and move your way to modern politics.
if you can in any way differentiate how government has been working in the past to how it works today I will buy you a steak dinner.
Welcome to reality.
and what do you suggest we do to "Change" government? because people have been "changing" government for thousands of years and it still looks, sounds and walks like a duck.
If you say Ron Paul so help me.......

We don't need to wake up, we need to turn off American Idol, 24, Grey's Anatomy and whatever bread and circus crap we are rotting our minds out with and open our eyes and think for ourselves.

Government is just a reflection of the people it represents. A corrupt government therefore is merely the reflection of a corrupt people.
