My friend seems to think that a turbocharged eagle talon could beat a lingenfelter 427 dual turbo charged corvette. He says the corvette could beat it in a straight line, but on a track with minimal straight stretch the talon would blow the doos of the high powered vette. His reasoning is that the talon is all wheel drive. However, I refuse to believe this. I have driven in corvettes b4 and I know that you can take big curves at 75 and not even feel it. so what do you think?? Is it really safe to say a one of the most powerful corvettes would never be able to take a eagle talon on a track?

I don't much about either, but it doesn't seem likely that the Talon would be able to beat the Vette on any kind of a straight. I wouldn't put money on it beating the Vette in turns either. AWD is NOT the ideal drivetrain for a high-performance situation on pavement. At any given time, a tire has some maximum amount of traction. Traction is the friction between the tire and road surface. By applying power to the wheels that are acting to turn the car, a portion of that traction is being used to keep the tire from spinning. That leaves less to actually turn the car.

Your friend has got to stop licking the backs of those South American toads at the local pet shop. LFTR TT 'Vettes are absolute monsters. Even a sloppy 'Vette driver will not have any problem walking away from the Talon and out cornering it. AWD comes in handy from a launch point of view, but all the HP and TQ has to turn FOUR wheels instead of just two. As mentioned above, even a highly modified Talon would still not be able to compete, because the displacement is just not there. The engine still can process only so much air and fuel and the drive train take only so much. 427 CID that is being force fed with TT's can process more air and fuel faster and in greater quantities, thus more usable HP and TQ. Sheesh....I'm amazed someone would actually make such a stupid suggestion.........go figure...........

O.K.... so for about two seconds I'm going to play devil's advocate.

In the hands of two idiots who can't drive high performance vehicles, the all wheel drive might give an edge in a tight cornering situation, but give that vette to someone who can powerglide through the turns and hold the lateral g's, that poor talon has about as much chance as the go-carts they drive around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway do competing against team Penske.

I've had vettes and I had a 3000 gt vr4 (the performance car that the Talon wants to grow up to be) and a stock C-6 in the right hands will blow the doors of the poor Mitsubishis and Talons. Been there, done that.

In fact, if you want to race him for pink slips, you might be able to get an extra $500 or so if you sell the Talon.

The Lingenfelter 427 TT is a world-beater. There is literally only a handful of street legal cars in the world that can compete with it on any level. The C5 and C6 Vette chassis is an track worthy platform to start with, and not just straight line speed. They handle and brake almost on par with exotic super cars, plus the additional horsepower and upgraded braking, and wider tires of the Lingenfelter raises that to a new level. Tuner Viper's, Porsche's, etc. and exotic super cars costing three times as much are all that's going to keep up with it on any level. A bone stock C5 or C6 Corvette would likely destroy even a fairly highly modded turbo Eagle Talon. In addition, his reasoning on the AWD is not too valid. Most AWD cars, with the exception of race prepped Subaru's ,Audi's, etc., have a tendency to under-steer fairly badly, while the Vette is almost perfectly balanced.

the only way a eagle will beat a lingenfelter is if the diver of the corvette gets too aggressive with the gas peddle and spins out or wrecks. if you floored a lingefelter at 100 mph it will still smoke the tires (motor trend did it) all wheel drive will help only in acceleration not in cornering the eagle will lose. even if by some miracle that the eagle would some how out handled a corvette (not a chance) a lingenfelter accelerates so fast it would still win.

Tell your friend to see a psychiatrist immediately. Those Eagles did not outrun standard Corvettes, much less a lingenfelter. On a tight slalom the Eagle might have an edge due to it's smaller size, but the Vette has much higher cornering limits.

The corvette would win easily. no offense to your friend but he is full of it. I bought my 1985 corvette when i was 15 yrs old and it would give a good fight to a fully tuned talon and my car is completely stock.

ur friend is full of crap, a talon has nothing on a corvette, but he is right, it is all wheel drive, but it still doesnt take curves better than a corvette. tell him you'll smoke him any day of the week.

I doubt very much that too many cars could take on this type of a corvette and beat it much rather stay close to it.
