Silly situation, really.
On a group IM discussion one person who I hadn't spoken to in ages said 'Oh, I bought you a present'. It was my birthday coming up so I assumed he was talking to me, and said thank you that's really kind!
Everyone on the IM kind of went 'quiet' and I thought what is going on? Turns out he was talking to his girlfriend (also on IM) whose birthday is just before mine, he didn't even know it was mine!!
Now I have to go stay with some friends next week and him and his girlfriend will be there. I'm soo embarrassed because they both know I used to have a BIG crush on him and it was really stupid of me to think he had got me a present, after we lost touch for so long! What if he thinks I was looking desperate or hopeful?

i know listen relax you could of ment it as a joke. as long as you've forgotten it then they will, its really no biggie and it was on the net not in person that coulda been a lot worse dont feel bad.

actually if you were joking or being sarcastic you would've said when everyone went quiet. so i guess thats ruled out, look you cant blame a person for trying. just easy up.

i've got it, go up to him and say did you bring my present then laugh and he will too.

I've found that if you pretend nothing has happend and you carry on with your friendships it will go away. When you meet with them next week act as if nothing happend be cheerful and dont act indifferent. I dont know if you're in another relationship at the time but maybe you can bring that up at some point and let them know how happy you are. This may ease the tension on the girlfriend and not feel threatend by you. ( If you're not in a relationship ignore this part)

No worries, everybody says something they think is dumb on a daily basis. The best way to deal with it is to not worry about it. If it is brought up just laugh and shrug, or crack a joke about it. I personally would not bring it up but if it was brought up I would acknowledge my mistake and then have a good laugh. I was once told that to live a happy life you must be able to laugh at yourself.

put on a brave face and front it, tell them you were having a laugh, joke about it, if you try to hide from it then you will give everyone the chance to talk about it behind your back, this will only make it worse, i bet in your circle of friends you have at least 1 person who will love to make a big thing about it and make it so much worse, i bet you also have at least 1 person in your circle of friends who will side with you and support you, find that person and get her/him to hold your hand over this. whatever you do don't hide from it, don't let it fester, if you do then it will never die, be brave and smile. take care and be safe, good luck.

You just have to live with it, but dont aviod doing things because of it. Everbody gets in embarrasing situations. Whatever they think has happened now, and I find attempts to change things that are embarrasing usually embarrass you further. Dont care what people thing, you are you!

Just make a joke of it. When someone brings a present I'm like, "Oh, why thank you. You're too kind." :) Say something like that, and then mention that you were only "kidding" on IM. :) Good Luck!

wing it. just say you were being sarcastic, why would you ever assume he'd get you a present, you're barely friends anymore! You realised he messaged you by mistake, and you and a room full of friends had a laugh at his expense.

Should do the trick.

hey sweety, you don't have to worry about this mild problem there is millions of people who have embarrassing situations. he probably forgot about it and when you go for the weekend just relax and enjoy it. Have fun just pretend like he isn't even there. Let me know how it goes.

Just say you were being sarcastic... that's what I would do. You don't have to be embarassed about it. You know how people speak sarcastically when people say things like that... like "Oh you shouldn't have..." They won't think any less of you. It was an honest mistake anyway.

Just laugh it off - I'm sure noone else will have thought anything of it to be honest! If you really want to break the ice - when you see him greet him with "Hi. Good to see you. So, where's my present then?!" and then laugh....

Don't worry about it
