Dozens of possiblity..i would have been obliged if you gave us few more details ....
1. Cooling problem of your CPU /Cabinet.(Temp. Porblem)
2.Power suply problem.
3. rare of the rarest Hard drive problem..
get yourself a diagnostic utility like Everest or Speedfan and get a handle on your system temps and power supply voltages.
Run diagonistic PSu like Everest then run your GAme if it freezes again ....analyse the temp change.
Note:: Keep your cabinet more ventalating..double fan!
Hope this will help
Cheers:)

If you have a anti virus software, run a check in safe mode and see what comes up, it would be a good idea to do a defrag as well, the files could be so badly arranged it is having a hard time finding them.

Try running a program like adaware or window washer. Above answer on running your anti-virus is important as well. If all else fails, can you back your files up to CD or another media and then restore your computer to a previous date that you know it was running fine?
