One of my cats does the same thing. Thought he might have a vocal cord problem. Took him to the vet and he really let loose with howling in the car.
Just the silent type, I guess.

HOW CUTE! Is it like a rolling "prrrt?" I love when cats do that. We have a cat-Dabzy-who loves it when people baby talk to her. She gets into this really loud purrrrrrrr, and rubs up against any and everything and flops on the floor and rolls....And what's funny is, it doesn't matter if you tell her she is a pretty kitty or stinky and disgusting. As long as you say it in "baby talk," she thinks you love her to pieces.
