I know someone who smoked the entire time they were pregnant and then when she had the baby, She made it a big deal to not smoke around the baby.
The baby sounds like a 90 yr old man that smoked his whole life.
Im I the only one who thinks this is kind of contridicting?

Thats terrible. I am pregnant and an ex-smoker. There is no way I would smoke while pregnant and no way I would smoke around a baby. My friend smoked pot through her pregnancy and used to yell at her boyfriend for having a smoke around her. I think pot makes you delusional - so that's probably where the contradiction comes from.

Unfortunately the person that suffers is always the baby.. Some people shouldn't have kids..

Well Unfortunatly The Way The Baby Sounds Isn't Necessarily From A Result Of Her Smoking...
The Affects Of Smoking Take A Long Time To Actually Appear... Unless The Baby Is Allergic To Smoke, Then He/She Could Have A Raspy Cough...

I Know A Couple Of People Who Have Done The Same Thing As Your Friend... It Doesn't Make Sense, But Atleast They're Not Smoking Around The Baby Now... And As Long As The Baby Is Healthy It Shouldn't Really Matter What They Did When They Were Pregnant :)

I agree with you. My sisters in law both smoked during all of their pregnancies (3 each), and all the kids have sinus problems, allergies, 2 have asthma. People don't realize how harmful smoking is and second hand smoke, too. I look at it like this, anything I wouldn't give to my baby, I wouldn't do during pregnancy. That includes cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, rare meat, and anything else harmful. I guess that's easy for me to say, though, I don't smoke, drink or do drugs anyway. I know it's hard for people to quit smoking, but at least they have a choice. These babies don't.

My sister was similar when she had her first. She smoked while pregnant with my nephew (this I cannot say anything about as I have done the same). After he was born she made a big deal and said "No smoking in the house!" She even bought some no smoking signs. We then found out that cigarettes weren't all she was smoking while pregnant - and after my nephew was born she allowed plenty of drugs to be done in her house (she did them too) around her son. She suddenly became anti-smoking cigarettes in the house but she didn't care about ANYTHING else. Thankfully she willingly gave my nephew up to our parents - but not before he was damaged from exposure to drugs, physically and emotionally.

i think its selfish to put an unborn baby through that and have newborn around that. you can never protect your child from everything harmful like exhaust fumes etc but cigarette smoke can be prevented. these mothers who smoke run the risk of giving birth to low birth weight babies and other defects then when it does happen they think, why did this happen to me? it infuriates me.

im 32 weeks pregnant and my bf smokes, as soon as we found out i was pregnant he decided - on his own - not to smoke around me and to try to give up by thie time i give birth. im really proud cos i know it must be a hard thing to do.
