Yes, parents do have a responsibility to oversee what their children eat which is why some activists met with a company concerning the nutritional value of certain foods being marketed to their kids. Some results of the negotiations is that the company agreed to manufacture healthier foods for kids and also restrict some marketing strategies targeted for them. According to the article about one-third of American children are obese or at risk for becoming obese.
