Foreign aid is merely bribery of the highest order! In israels case it is the highest order of extortion on us from them! There is a great deal of poverty in the US! They already receive enough money to rid all of it but they spend the money on war and it ends up in the rich bank accounts! That's why the US is imperialistic, war mongering and perpetually generating fear worldwide!

As compaired to what?

The actual number of poverty stricken individuals in the U.S. is quite low compaired to the rest of the world. If you don't believe this, live in other countries for a while. The thing to keep in mind here is... YOU CAN'T ELIMINATE POVERTY. It is not possible and will always exist. Believe it or not, SOME choose to live off the success of others. I repeat... SOME. And it is that "some" that are usually the most vocal about receiving a handout. That we owe them something. I'm located in Michigan, this liberal state gives out money hand over fist. Where I work, I see it first hand. Sure some get it legit. But far too many... well, take advantage, of the Michigan system. The answer should be... What is an acceptable poverty level as it can not be eliminated.

I believe it is not the governments job to give handouts. We have enough organizations for that. It is its job to create an environment where we can be successful. This will create a more healthy, adaptable and happy society as people provide for themselves.

the basic and solution lies in the golden rule "teach a man to fish " and you would have tought a man survival.
if the USA would spend the money in teaching and showing how to work what those countries have it would not be like pouring buckets of water in the sand. the main reason is the logical and easiest way is not always the most efficient and correct.

so with everything in life. take care.
also if we the USA were to charge a % of the land for the $ we lend we would be like julius cesar conquering the world . take care.

S. whilst it comprises greater practise. 2nd, you realize why the international is like this? Selfishness. Yeah, the prosperous international places refuse to offer up their way of existence as a fashion to help keep the planet and help different poor international places. you notice if we've been all equivalent then there may well be no social status. human beings might desire to trample on others to make themselves experience greater important. the prosperous international places are an exceedingly small proportion of the international's inhabitants, yet yet they're ones who makes use of the main means and has the main funds. To REGERUGGED, Who taught you logic? You state, "Quit looking to the US government to solve the world's problems." THAT'S THE PROBLEM IN A NUTSHELL! The USA is trying to be the world police and solve the worlds problems, all at the expense or our hard earned taxes. I would rather see our taxes given to our own people for free college educations, free health care, and other benefits to improve our own citizens FIRST! If someone wants to help others in other countries, I say let them use there own money, not our public taxes. Let's stop cutting our social programs, improve our health care and education system and stop giving our tax money away to fund an unpopular wrong by an unpopular President. Again, we need to help our citizens first. We are way behind other countries in this area.

Stated like a true liberal. I think you are wrong. Poverty level in the US for a family of four is $32,000. In North Korea and Cuba the annual salaries are about $350. Now that's poverty. The US is the richest country. If you want to help those who have less, go and do it. Quit looking to the US government to solve the world's problems.

America is the only country in the world with fat poor people. Poverty in America is middle class in many other countries in the world. If you want to eliminate poverty, put people to work that physically can work. Trying to lift people out of poverty by giving them money is like trying to get someone in shape by working out for them.

Poverty is as much a result of bad personal decisions as anything else. People chose to commit crimes, drop out of school, get pregnant young, have children without being married, do drugs, etc. and they are suffering the economic consequences of their own bad choices.

There exists many opportunities for people to get out of poverty, if they make the right choices.

But, because many people make bad personal choices, there will always be poverty. It isn't government's job to eliminate poverty. Check the Constitution. You HAVE heard of the Constitution, right?

There is a group of people that aren't willing to work their way out of poverty. Some of this mentality was bred by the welfare state created by Lyndon Johnson.
The more government hand out programs we have, the more people will just kick back and suck on the public teat.

To Scarymember: So what is so wrong with giving handouts to our own citizens instead of people who hate us. Maybe some people are lazy because they can't get out of poverty, can't afford to educate themselves, have no hope, and are tired of fighting with the Department of Human Services or Family Independence Agency for simple basic needs. I agree with TVC15 1000%
