The idea that we can have peace if we can just manage to kill the right people is a form of insanity.

Here is a good example, some guy, lets call him Mr. Hilter, decides he wants to take control of... lets say Europe and also exterminate as many jews as he can (because he doesn't like the way they tie their shoes).
You have an army and agreements with other people with armies that you'll help each other out if Mr. Hilter tries to invade your country and kill your jews ("jews - eveyone should have one").
You are fairly certain you cannot discourage Mr. Hilter by taking away his pocket money and not allowing him to watch his favorite soap opera, so you:
a) Try to convince your friends that having Mr. Hilter around won't be too bad, so long as he doesn't get bored with genocide and move onto stamp collecting.
b) Try to convince Mr. Hilter that the whole world domination and genocide thing wasn't such a great idea and he should try stamp collecting.
c) Kick his butt all the way back to the 'hood and tell him to stay on his side of the fence.

As I recollect, in recent history only option c seemed a viable alternative.
In the process, a bunch of soldiers got killed, but overall this seems a better alternative to renaming Europe "Hilterland" and having Mr. Hilter run out of jews to murder and having to move on to Russians (oh, wait I think he did move onto Russians) or let's say French people.
Option c, in this case solved a world problem.

Only in the long run.
Good individuals have died for their causes;and unfortunately so have the bad, evil ones.
Remembering the good ones is thus not always easy, but
it must be tried. For almost at the same time we can remember the good and not-so-famous;the anonymous but
no-less-good individuals. For example, the soldiers who died
for freedom against the evil Nazis or the barbaric Japanese
during the 2nd world war.
War is never good, neither is killing. But even peaceful areas
need order,to prevent violence and needless killing;thus we
live with a force,a police force who try to maintain law-and-order(and the"balance" here should be in favor of the good and of the peaceful, law abiding citizen). This, the people and
their good, just peaceful and open system,is presently also
further protected by other groups(army, navy, secret service, ect).
In an ideal world,a responsibe, just and open society would
hardly be in need of these soldiers ect.
And if one of these days, the UNITED Nations gets its
(conciderable) act together-if it can muster an effective police force, charged and authorised through a workable, just, system-then i see no reason for separate armies-of-soldiers.
So we not only hope;we can work for peace;work for the
good;support good and reasonable people and their selfless
actions. To provide more order-and-law in a better world.

Soldiers do what they are told. Look at it like this war is like chess. You have the pawns leap mindlessly into the battle field. All along you have the king and queen being protected while the one in control stands behind the board watching and controlling every move. Who cares if you loose a pawn. Thats the mentality of the world leaders. but how many soldiers that are in iraq that want to go home and don't want to be there, almost all! what are they going to do just put there gun down and walk home. nope thats not going to happen. a soldier has no control over what they do while in combat but they do have control over what they think and how they feel about what they do.

Well for instance, in World War 2, when Nazi Germany wanted to regain its Sudetenland, annex eastern Europe, exterminate the Jewish people and other minorities, and re-write the "wrongs" of World War 1. It was deemed necessary by some people to try and stop this happening and "soldiers killed each other".

It would appear we have a policy of "bombing the hell out of someone makes them better people". It worked for Japan. Look where Japan is now on the world stage, all it took was a couple big bombs to set them straight. The bombing raid in Libya set them on the narrow path too. With these kind of results why would the military doubt the ability of bombing for a better nation. We just haven't seen the results of our middle eastern bombing yet. I truly believe this is in the thinking of war planners. I don't agree with this policy. I don't agree with the philosophy of war that sparked many of the crusades. How can you kill another person in the name of a kind and loving God? Why haven't we evolved past war? War makes no sense. War doesn't decide who's right, it decides whose left.

Well... In the case of Hitler a nut tried to take over the world. I suppose killing became necessary then... But many times i agree with you it just all seems very pointless and barbaric.

It does not, but only creates more of the World's problems.
1] Population Control.
2] Strategic and Resource location acquisition.

"Philippines ~ 1899-1902
U.S.-- 4,234 dead and 2,818 wounded.

Philippines-- 20,000 military dead and 200,000 civilian dead. (approximate numbers). Some historians place the numbers of civilian dead at 500,000 or higher."

With only 70,000+/- Iraqi civilian dead, the US still has a few numbers to go for the completion of its population control and location and resource acquisition. Six permanent US structures/bases under construction in Iraq.

Is there something wrong? Destroy Iraqi buildings and build US owned, operated structures.

No. I don't believe it does. What we should be doing is putting the politicians in a arena and let them kill each other.
Bush vs. Bin Laden in the square ring. No holds barred!
