Police are expected to continue questioning Michael Barrymore later following his arrest on suspicion of murder.

Stuart Lubbock was found dead in the swimming pool at the entertainer's Essex home in 2001.

Two other men, believed to be Justin Merritt and Jonathan Kenny, are also being held. All three suspects are also being questioned about allegations of sexual assault.

Mr Lubbock's father Terry, has fought a long campaign for justice for his son and has been critical of previous investigations.

The 62-year-old said: "I am really pleased. It feels like it is the end of a long struggle. I've been in limbo for the past six years. My life has been on hold. I will never get those six years back again. Why has it taken so long?

"I have had so many disappointments over the past six years. This could be another one. I am waiting for the jackpot. I am waiting with bated breath."

"I have had so many disappointments over the past six years. This could be another one. I am waiting for the jackpot. I am waiting with bated breath."

He added: "I am going to keep on going. I am not going to let my son down, no matter how many disappointments."

It is the second time that Barrymore, 55, who left the UK for New Zealand in late 2003, has been arrested in connection with the death Mr Lubbock.

Post-mortem results showed the 31-year-old butcher had suffered severe internal injuries which suggested possible sexual assault. Alcohol plus Ecstasy and cocaine were found in his bloodstream.

The police inquiry into his death was re-opened last December after a review of the first investigation.

All the gays i know take drugs

Where do you get this information? Being gay does not mean they have a drug habit.

This is not only old news, but I am not really sure what is to be investigated.

Apoart from the lad's father who is desperately trying to convince himself that his son was straight - and therefore the internal injuries "must have been against his will".

First off: How in creation his father can state that as a fact is beyond me.

Secondly: Having had a coctail of druhs including coacine (a powerful pain killer, he could easily have "enjoyed" everything from being fisted to gang-shagged. If you are stupid enough to do these things with your pain receptors switched off, things CAN go wrong.

The guy passed out from being stoned & pissed and drowned in a pool.

What is the big deal?

It is sad, but accidental death through drug and alcohol abuse occurs daily in the UK. Many people who are as high as kites also do things sexually they might have hang-ups about otherwise.

Where is the news here - other than a long since "career-killed" ex-celebrity?

The 62 year old needs to try and move on. His son is dead - irrespective of what happened. To assume that someone murdered the lad and left him in a pool for all to see is a little silly.

My feeling is that Barrymore is guilty. I have believed that for six years.
I only hope that this time the Police have done their job properly, and have enough evidence to charge and convict him and the others involved.
Its time that Stuart Lubbock and his family received justice.
To the person who asked, would there have been so much interest if Barrymore was straight? Yes, i think there would have been the same level of media interest. The interest is because a man lost his life, and one of the people involved is a celeb.
As for the comment about Gays and Drugs, grow up, drugs are the curse of our whole society, Gay, Straight or anything else. Don't be so prejudiced.

over the passage of time since Lubbocks death took place,
Barrymore's legal team are probably hoping people will have forgotten
" i didn't jump in to save him, i can't swim "
we all know that's a lie,
Barrymore promoted swimming competitions for kids & can swim, even winning medals.
" the injures were caused after Lubbock was taken to the Hospital " now that was a nasty accusation.
implying the doctors, paramedics & nurses were responsible.
something happened at Barrymore's home that night & a man is dead.
Barrymore & his circle of friends were renowned for drug-fuelled sex-parties, hiring male strippers that have in the past, refused to honour the bookings, fearing their safety.
Barrymore knows what happen is running out of hard cash for his defence spin & legal costs.
his career didn't recover in New Zealand, like he hoped after he ran away
now has to face the consequences of that night.

I would have thought if anyone had assaulted the guy the evidence would have been up his ****. I dont think swimming pool can wash away evidence up there.

I am surprised the coroner didn't find that sort of DNA evidence.

Having said that I think some people like rough s*x so even if they found evidence - what's to say he was forced against his will? It will never be proved beyond reasonable doubt - he could have enjoyed S&M sort of stuff and just drowned because he passed out messing about in the pool. Even if he were straight he may have taken coke/drugs and being surrounded by gay guys wanted to join in because he was off his head and randy. Who knows?

The family did not beleive he was gay...so theiry is he was raped or assaulted....

if he did die during a sexual act the best thing to have done was to call the polcie immediately and let them know so they could establish a timeline and establish whether this was voluntary sex/drugs....as it stands this is a murder enquiry because he was in a pool dead from a serious sexual assault with no explaination and apparently nobody saw anything... suspicious cicurmstances? or what?

Barrymore has carried a look of remorse in the public since this murder of Stuart.

but i read on teletext today that he was arrested as police officers heard him talking about it to some friends as they opened the case again.

so my assumption is that he has said something suggesting he knows more then he is letting on

oh yeah, and Stuarts family deserve justice and closer

I think I will wait until he has been found guilty/innocent in a court of law before forming any opinions, but my heart does go out to the family of Stuart Lubbock.

Well I am personally glad, because I believe he was involved. Remember he did a runner?!!! And said No comment all through the coroners inquest.

Good news for stuarts Dad, who Barrymore has treated like sh*t. Dont forget him making comments in the BB house about him hounding him.

I just hope he was banged up in the police cell overnight, and not given special treatment. Tee Hee
