Bush has gone on the record numerous times about wanting to spread "democracy" and "freedom" to the Middle East, and so he backs both the Fatah and Lebanese government in the process--and the peace talks with Israel.
Only...
Last year, Israel invaded Lebanon to try and take out the embedded Hezbolah contingent--with the US's blessing--and kills over 800 Lebanonese civilians and only a small number of Hezbolah fighters.
(All for democracy, right?)
Israel ends up with egg on its face in light of the embarassing defeat by Hezbolah, while Bush does nothing but pull financial support from the people of Lebanon because of what happened.
So Hezbolah steps in to give what the US refuses to dole out: Money and support in the ongoing reconstruction efforts--even though our government has labeled Hezbolah as 'terrorists'.

The peace in the Middle East, democracy, freedom, and whatnot, is being threatened by the conflict in Lebanon, so everyone's attention is focused on what's happening with the Palestinians.
Again, Bush wants peace, democracy, and freedom to reign, and he's said that he would endorse whatever government is exercising these requirements.
(All for democracy, right?)
So the people of Palestine DEMOCRATICALLY elect Hamas in January of 2006--stunning the world, the Fatah government, and the US.
So what does Bush do? WITHHOLD AID FROM THE PEOPLE OF PALESTINE BECAUSE OF THEIR CHOICE IN BOTH LEADERSHIP AND GOVERNMENT.
So where is the democracy, freedom, and CHOICE in this? If Bush wants to spread freedom, democracy, and peace across the Middle East, why can't he ACCEPT the choices that people in these various countries make and go on with it?
Isn't this what Bush wanted in the first place?

And top of that, Bush supporters are now calling for Fatah and Israel to UNITE and kill off an entire Hamas movement in one fell swoop.
Why? Because they don't APPROVE of the choice the Palestinian people made in 2006?
Why is it that we have to make their decisions for them? Why does our vision of democracy have to be ENFORCED on other countries whether they want it or not?

I didn't omit that part, because that's not the whole reason why I am asking the question.
