Absolutely. There was one in Connecticut in the late eighties. I saw it form and it touched down in Hamden CT. Looked like a bomb hit the area. That's close enough to New York to make it more than possible.

Tornadoes are possible pretty much anywhere on the planet, if you want to be sure of avoiding them then you have to go to Antarctica.

England has more tornadoes per square mile than anywhere else but these are almost always small and rarely cause any damage. It's the southern and central US states that usually get hit by the large tornadoes but in recent years the extent of the area where big tornadoes can strike has extended.

The chances of NYC being hit by a large tornado are small but it is a possibility. Because of the changing patterns where tornadoes touch down it seems probable that chances will increase as time passes. In the long run NYC probably will get hit by a tornado. Just like LA being struck by an earthquake, it's a case of not knowing when and hoping for the best.

I have seen 4 tornadoes and 3 hurricanes in my life. When I see one I do everything I can to get out of it's way. I've never had a house hit by one but I was in an office building that had it's side ripped off by a cat 2 tornado. Luckily the only people in the building at the time were the people in my office and it was on the other side away from the twister. No one was injured but I think a lot of people peed their pants. LOL

It is possible. All that needs to happen is for there to be a supercellular thunderstorm. These form in high shear environments from either change in wind speed or change in wind direction with height. If the supercellular thunderstorm's updraft region goes over the city, then it is just a matter of if there is a rear flank downdraft (RFD), the temperature of the air in the RFD, storm relative helicity (SRH), and some other contributing factors. Although, it would seem to me like the tornado would be destroyed or weakened if it hit a tall, large building.

Of course! It is possible to get a tornado anywhere in the world,it is all acording to low and hight pressures or air and the tematures of the air.If there is a tonado watch just be prepared to one aka make sure you have a safe shelter to go to(but a watch means people are looking out for one,not there is one) but if there is a tornado warning seek shelter. So answering your question yes it is possible.
