Depending on each state's law, being on a sex offender list doesn't mean that person was convicted of a felony as there are misdemeanor offenses that may put people on a sex offender list.
Additionally, where did you see this list? If it's not an official state sex offender list, then how do you know its correct? Additionally, have you considered that this person is really a sex offender and that maybe a sex offender elsewhere in the state shares the same name with him?
Don't bother calling the police. What can they do? Lying on a job application isn't an arrestable offense. They'll say "until he commits a crime, there isn't anything we can do and this is an issue for "your company name here" to handle, not the police". If it concerns you so much, send an anonomous letter to your HR office and state you believe (person's name) lied on his/her job application about felony convictions and may be a registered sex offender.
Also, I wouldn't go openly communicating your concerns to alot of people. If this turns out to be untrue and alot of people (including him/her) find out about this untrue rumor, you may get sued for slander.

Many states require sex offenders with misdemeanor convictions to register for their crimes. Maybe he truthfully said that he has never been convicted of a felony. Just something to consider before you start accusing people of things. If you are wrong, it can come back to bite you in the end especially considering your immediate boss is so close with him.
Also, did you see his application? Do you know for certain that he checked no? If you did see it, was it part of your job? Checking yes to the felony question does not always automatically disqualify you for a job.
Not trying to be mean, but you might want to consider some other possibilities about the situation.

Every organization has something called "Corporate Ethics" try to go through the document via Company Website and see what needs to be done for this kind of activity at the office premises.
The document also should carry the Ethics officer for your region or department. Kindly contact and take further according to that. Usually ethics officers would be HR Personnel.

tread carefully here - are you sure it is him? are you sure he was convicted of the crime? did you see the conviction? was the charges dropped?
Discussing something that may harm an individual by not knowing for sure what is true can bring harm back to you.
Also, they may know.. there are states that do protect individuals in regards to discrimination and their criminal records. it is not illegal to hire someone who has a felony. They may be aware of this situation, and the job does not impact this fact.
Unless he has personally done something to you, or he has harmed another individual, or has the potential of endagering another individual, this is NONE of YOUR Business, and ultimately can come back to harm You instead.
FYI, if you do an anonymous note, remember one thing, DNA and fingerprints can point back to you, should he decide to press charges.

I personally wouldn't get involved ... even sex offenders need to work and there are sometimes innocent people convicted unjustly. Would YOU like to be the one to do that to him again without knowing the whole story???
