Its amazing not one of these other couples with kids have been asked to come out with their story of the evening or done any form of media interview (to my knowledge) or even been seen overtly publicly supporting the McCanns.

I wonder if they are worried they will be picked up on their parenting skills or perhaps are concerned NOT to be asked questions about the McCanns story of checking the kids every 30 minutes - it appears now it didn't happen and they don't want to get caught lying if later they have to go to court and its proved otherwise.

leejayangelo - didn't think of that maybe you are right - maybe they have been told not to by police or something.

Scott H - what is respectful about not supporting the McCanns publicly or backing up the McCanns version of events? Why are they not all coming out and saying we all did it, ok some of you may think it was the wrong decisions, but we were all fine about it and we did check the kids every 30 minutes - the bar staff were wrong'?

Chris B - I have every right to be asking such a question. Its a fair one and its not abusive, unlike your response.

Did they have kids with them ?? did they also leave their kids alone on a night time while they went to eat ???? Maybe that is why they are keeping out of the limelight, they feel guilty that it could have happened to them too.

They should be quiet ..their friends are in the middle of an investigation into the disappearance of their daughter and all they know is that they were with the parents and can vouch for who checked who and thats it and possibly they left their kids alone....

if they had interviews it would just be gossip or money making or take attention away from the McCann family and so on and people might see this as a conspiracy of failure...

if I was the McCanns I would be so aggrieved that my child was taken and that now none of my firends can help in that and no checking can help....

I would be thinking was it worth it to act like this and choose the company of people who now cannot help...

I know that they were brought before a Judge in Portugal before being allowed to return to the UK ... presumably to swear statements. Perhaps the Judge himself prohibited them from speaking about the case under the Portuguese Law that prohibits information being given out?

Mind you, wouldn't the McCanns also have been under similar restrictions? Perhaps that is yet another reason for the hiring of Barristers? Although no UK Barrister would be allowed to defend them in Portugal anyway.

It's not only the travelling companions though is it? Who knows anything about the Nanny? No-one has heard a word from her either. She isn't in Portugal so presumably is either still employed by them on full pay to stop her talking or has been paid off and issued with a 'gagging order' ... Hmmm .... now that might explain the Barristers?

Sorry - just thinking 'out loud' here - this case has so many anomalies!

This question has been asked before but nevertheless, maybe they were interviewed by the police in the initial stages of the investigation but decided not to put the spotlight on themselves as it could also be possible they left their kids unattended that night and every other night as well. They're just saving their own behinds cause they could also be seen as neglectful parents.

I agree completely with everything you have said. It is surely one of the strangest things about the case. I'd have expected them shoved in front of cameras within a day or so but...nothing. Very odd. I think you are very likely right that they wouldn't want to contradict the McCann version of events, but equally know that the truth will come out at some point so aren't going to put themselves on the line.

I would have thought the press would have been after them straight away though. I mean, surely a show of support for the McCanns, even without confirming any details of the night, would have fitted in with the press' completely positive spin on the story.

Because they left their children in the same situation likely and now know it is wrong and see what could happen as a result and will look bad. Thats my only thought on that except the 1 guy friend who gave the description of the man he saw carrying a little girl. I have my suspicions about him to.

I think they we're warned off from talking by the McCann's although I also have a very strong feeling they had children and left them alone as well......we saw one family board a plane with the McCanns so we know one family did and they we're around the same ages to.

Thats what I find so shocking...that you wouldn't take it in turns to stay with the children?

Gerry holds the reins on everything.

Maybe he wouldn't let them talk to the media

i do recall they had children with them, think im right in saying it was a party of nine altogether, can't remember if the adults outnumbered the children, but they all left their children alone.

i recon they maybe keeping out of it because they are relieved it was not their child that was taken due to their neglect.

a lesson learnt for some, shame Madeleine paid the price

Perhaps there is an injunction preventing them from giving interviews? The Mccann's did hire Lawyers pretty Damn Quick

I agree - it's decidedly odd that there hasn't been even one interview with any of the large group they were with. Even more odd that they weren't seen searching or publicising their support for the McCanns. If I were on holidays with my friends and one of their children went missing, I imagine I would be rallying round and helping as much as I could...
Very strange.
