Palestinian relations with Israel will be the same as they are now only more so. The chronic LIW (Low Intensity War) on the Israel-Gaza border will worsen but only in degree, not in charactor.

Hamas would love to invade Israel but does not begin to have the muscle to launch a conventional attack. They will however step up guerilla raids, rocket attacks, and suicide attacks.

In response, the Israelis will step up UAV attacks, commando raids, and ground sweeps; in other words the same things they've been doing since they pulled out of Gaza two years ago. Israel doesn't want another guerilla war like the two it fought in Lebanon, so it won't attempt to permanently occupy Gaza.

Remember Hamas has only taken over Gaza; Fatah still controls the Arab towns of the West Bank. The two will probably launch occasional raids on each other as well. How serious that gets depends on the attitude Jordan and Egypt take towards the infra-Palestinian conflict. Egypt has had serious problems with islamofascists in the past ten years so it's not going to let Hamas forces pass through Egyptian teritory. It just might let Fatah forces through to attack Gaza if public opinion permits.

I think time will tell.

If Hamas becomes isolated in Gaza and realizes that it will never expand past that point, they might be willing to agree to a long term ceasefire (hunda) in return for Israel provinding basic utilites and medical aid. The situation would be great.

Though it very well could go the other way with civil war breaking out in the West Bank.

Well, since Hamas is a terrorist organization funded and supplied with weapons by Iran, I would say not good. That's why Israel should never give land back. The Arabs only use it to attack Israel. It happened in 1948, 1959, 1967, 1973.

Hamas will destroy any chances of meaningful peace in the Middle East. They are all about brutal force and the annihilation of the State of Israel. They will not negotiate peace and sadly the developments in Gaza are probably the worst thing that could be happening for the Palestinian people. I hope the Iranian Mullah's are happy with all the death and destruction they are financing. Its a horrible development.

Good Luck!!!

Israel and the Israeli lobby will use the take over by Hamas to delay any peaceful process.
Remember Israel policy is to keep occupying land that was never part of Israel and there is no country is willing to recognize that land is part of Israel.
