First of all, I think this is an interesting question and am surprised by some of the answers given. Domestic abuse is still assault. WHATEVER she did, she doesn't deserve to be hit with an iron bar.
Secondly, a man who hits his wife is lower than a flesh eating maggot on the carcass of a dead pig.

He'll probably say she ran into his iron bar with her head. Domestic abuse is very common, and what this woman needs is a divorce and what this man needs is a long spell behind iron bars.

It makes me think of a friend my dad had.He beat his wife in the head with a tire iron then passed out. After he awoke from his drunken stooper he found his little friend super glued to his leg and he was tied to his bed..She left him there for a couple of hours and then set the bed on fire. She got off because she had skull fractures and brain damage. All I've got to say is you go head on honey.

Something similar happened and I went right over.
I asked them both together if it was true.
Both said it wasn't.
I went around and kicked the **** of the person who said it.
Every story - two sides, one fact.

DAMN!!!! and then I thought she should hit him back with a crow bar.. on his knee caps... you know at the right angle she can mess him up, but will not face murder charges.

My first thought is not appropriate for Yahoo! Answers. However, my next-to-first, but not quite second, though would be that I hoped he was in jail.
