Why did Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?

Maybe they were testing the Helmets, for durability.. :D

Good question.
Maybe they figured the pilot might not make his destination and would have to return so be on the safe side and give head protection???
Or that when he crashed there is always the possibility he lives; don't want to injure the brain???
Now, did he also have a parachute?????

Thinking a little more, it was just a basic part of the entire uniform and also needed to protect the ears.
I don't think it had to do with safety....
