I do not automatically add a Fan as my Contact. There are a few things I check into and try to "measure up" the person and their Q&A's. If that person asks a lot of good questions, then I may add them. If they have a good network built, then I might add them. If they are "friends of friends" I might add them.

I only add those that I like and trust. There are some that are creepy. I don't add them.
I always wait until I'm invited by the way. I always look up their profile page or 360 if they have one as well.
